METAL WATER BOTTLES
Who needs ice? Metal water bottles are known for keeping your beverage cool — or hot — for hours on end. Here are three reusable metal water bottles to bring aboard your boat. —Pete McDonald
S’WELL TEAKWOOD
THE CHILL: Made of highgrade 18/8 stainless steel, the S’well definitely kept water cool inside even after the outer bottle baked in the summer sun for hours. S’well claims it keeps liquids cool for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. The teakwood design goes hand in hand with the boating life.
THE NIL: One of the more expensive metal bottles; prone to dings and scratching.
PRICE: $45 for 25-ounce bottle; swell.com
GSI MICROLITE 1000 TWIST
THE CHILL: The lightest of the three bottles, the GSI is also vacuum-insulated 18/8 stainless steel and makes the claim of keeping liquids cold for 32 hours. In personal use, it also kept water cool while exposed to summer sun for hours. The rubberized bottom keeps a decent grip on surfaces such as a boat’s pedestal table.
THE NIL: While the screwtop leash doubles as a finger hold, it juts out at an awkward 90-degree angle.
PRICE: $34.95 for 33-ounce bottle; gsioutdoors.com
THE COLDEST WATER BOTTLE
THE CHILL: Like the S’well, The Coldest Water bottle is made of 18/8 stainless steel and vacuum-insulated, but this one claims a 36-hour chill time. It also kept water chilled for hours while lying exposed in the sun on an offshore trip. The screw-on lid has a handle, and the bottle has a rubber grip.
THE NIL: The heaviest of the three bottles; not as ergonomic to hold.
PRICE: $29.99 for 32-ounce bottle; thecoldestwater.com
