GARMIN ONDECK SYSTEM
When paired with Garmin’s ActiveCaptain mobile app, OnDeck connects owners to their boat remotely so they can check onboard systems from virtually anywhere.
OnDeck allows for monitoring of the boat’s battery status, bilge activity, door/ hatch sensors, and GPS location. Boat owners can also configure the app to send notifications of changes that may threaten the boat, such as a custom geofence. The system hardware includes a GTB 10 OnDeck hub module (with internal GPS), door sensor, temperature sensor, shore-power sensor and relay switch. OnDeck communicates boat data via an always-on connection with 3G/4G coverage, which requires a subscription, by sending email or text messages to registered users.
While OnDeck can be used as a stand-alone system, it will also integrate with onboard marine electronics through the Garmin Marine Network using NMEA 2000 sensors and connectors. It’s compatible with a wide range of Garmin GPSMap displays. Data received from a boat’s OnDeck system is securely recorded and collected through the hub for immediate viewing and also available via the cloud for 30 days. An internal backup battery with 48-hour capacity powers OnDeck if the boat battery is depleted or disconnected.
OnDeck retails for $849.99, and one of two subscription plans is required. A plan for $19.99 per month allows for cancellation at any time. A yearly contract includes three months at no charge. After the first three months, the monthly fee is $12.99. To learn more, visit garmin.com.
