Find out what can be done in an acre

-

A drienne Potter Diaz has turned her 1-acre property in South Fort Myers into a garden wonderland with a cottage garden, butterfly garden, vegetable/herb garden, and several fruit trees. Called Miss Potters Place, her property is a welcoming home to free-range chickens, birds, dragonflies and small animals that are attracted to the offerings.

“My goal has been to create a garden oasis that is not only beautiful but very productive (edible) for me, as well as being a sanctuary for animals,” says Diaz.

Through a period of trial and error, Diaz has learned what to grow, where to grow it, and how to grow a range of plants using no chemical sprays or fertilizers in her 20 raised beds.

She has opened her garden (by appointment only) to show others what can be done in a backyard or around a patio. Besides offering tours of her garden, she speaks to garden clubs, civic associations, scout troops, homeschoolers, homeowners and more. She also offers classes and/or personal yard consultations to encourage others to try their hand at growing their own.

“I hope that my backyard oasis will be an encouragement and an inspiration to you,” says Diaz, adding, “If I can do it, I can help you do it.”
