Panhandle Plains Fishing Report

Alan Henry

FAIR. Water clear; 84 degrees; 0.32 low high. Fishing remains slow but quality of fish is up. Black bass, spotted bass and largemouth bass are good with success using earthworms. Fish are schooling up so use depth finders to locate. Fish with jigs and earthworms. Crappie are good on minnows seeking out the structures. Catfish are fair on live bait, cut bait and stink bait.

Arrowhead

FAIR. Water slightly stained; 83-86 degrees; 0.70 feet low. Fishing patterns remain consistent as the past few weeks. Channel and blue catfish are fair slowing down from week past. Try cheese bait over baited holes or drifting with fresh cut shad. There has been plenty of shad to be found. Black and white bass are slow. Crappie are good in deeper water using minnows and jigs.

Cisco

GOOD. Water stained; 76 degrees; 1.39 feet low. Summer fishing patterns remain the same, fishing in deeper waters as the summer heats persist. Largemouth bass are fair on crankbait and soft plastic rigs in the early mornings and later in the evenings fishing the northern portion of the lake. Sunfish are good on cutworms under structures or vegetation. Crappie remain fair on jigs and minnows. Catfish have been fair on stink bait, chicken livers, and cut shad.

Coleman

FAIR. Slightly stained. 81 degrees. 2.90 feet low. Hybrid stripers are fair on rattle traps chasing schools deeper preferring silver coloring. Largemouth bass are fair with topwater, worms, and jerkbaits just off the timber in deeper water and brush. Crappie remain good osn jigs off of points under larger dock. Catfish are fair with stink bait and cut bait.

Ft. Phantom Hill

GOOD. Water stained; 82 degrees; 0.23 feet high. Fish are in a summer pattern, so fishing should be similar to what we have been seeing in the past week. White and hybrid bass can be found in 8-20 feet of water in areas such as Spillway, Sailboat Cove, and main lake points. Trolling deep crankbaits is a popular technique on this lake. Channel catfish are good fish baited holes around stickups/ cattails in 4-10 feet of water using stinkbait below a bobber for best success. Look for bait fish in shallow water with cover such as lilly pads in the back of coves to produce bait.

Greenbelt

SLOW. Water stained; 87 degrees; 37.64 feet low. Black bass are slow as due to the heat, fish deeper waters. Catfish are fair on live bait suspending bait 3 feet from the bottom. Walleye are fair as they have been harder this year than previous years. Sunfish and crappie are good fishing shallow structures with live bait. White bass are slow. Hubbard Creek

GOOD. Water clear; 81 degrees; 0.75 feet low. Shad are plentiful and easily found on just about any wind blown main lake point in 15-25 feet of water. White bass are excellent with some surface action this past week. Fish main lake structures in 15-25 feet of water at first light for best success, then go deeper as the heat of the day increases. Best success has come with an oversized rooster tail style bait called the Maindelle All-purpose Lure (MAL lure) worked fairly slowly. Fish were willing to gang up with this slightly cooler weather we had. Trolling crankbaits or downrigger­s 15-20 feet deep should produce some fish if you are unable to spot lock. Channel catfish are good in 4-10 feet of water using stinkbait fishing baited holes around stickups/cattails. Fish crappie using a light road runner style jig flung under docks with ample shade as well as working bridge pilings. Many bass anglers are catching fish around hydrilla. Water clear and should offer excellent bowfishing opportunit­ies.

Meredith

SLOW. Water stained; 76 degrees; 49.21 feet low. Summer fishing patterns remain consistent. Black bass remain fair working new drops with crankbait, and bottom bumping worms. White bass is slow on minnows. Walleye are great in 3050 feet of water pulling crawler harnesses. Crappie are good with minnows, and jigs suspending over structure or under structure. Channel catfish are good on minnows.

Millers Creek

GOOD. Water stained; 81 degrees; 0.22 feet high. Largemouth bass are good on points, and fishing pondweed with worms, topwater frogs, and weedless jigs. Crappie are good in the timber with minnows. White bass are fair and schooling deep at the deepest spot off points. Catfish are fair middepth in coves with live, blood, and liver prepared baits.

Nasworthy

GOOD. Water Murky; 82 degrees. 0.86 feet low. Black bass are great as heat drives bass to shelter and deeper water. Worms, spinners, and crankbait are good suspending above brush and fallen timber. Crappie are good but slowing with jigs. White bass are fair mid depth. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits throughout the lake.

O.C. Fisher

FAIR. Water stained; 92 Degrees. 43.95 feet low.

Largemouth bass and white bass are great using half inch pumpkinsee­d jigs, and ten-inch power worms. Crappie are good on minnows near similar drops and some bigger humps. White bass are fair schooling some early but mainly deep late in the day. Catfish are fair on stinkbait, live and cut bait. O.H. Ivie

GOOD. Water clear; 79 degrees; 14.74 feet low. Largemouth bass and white bass are great using half inch pumpkinsee­d jigs, and ten-inch power worms. Crappie are good on jigs. Catfish are good on stink bait, live, and cut bait.

Oak Creek

FAIR. Water lightly stained; 82 degrees; 3.98 feet low. Largemouth bass remain good at first light with topwater. Moving to structures like boulders, fallen timber, and flooded vegetation with Texas rigged worms, crankbait, and jigs. Crappie are good on live minnows suspended and jigs moving through and under structure. White bass are fair in deep parts of the lake. Catfish are fair on nightcrawl­ers, live bait, and cut bait.

Possum Kingdom

FAIR. Water slightly stained; 83 degrees; 0.18 feet high. Fish have been biting in water depths 1535 feet. Striper fishing is good with top water action picking up using live bait and topwaters. Bass are good on top water along shorelines. Catfish have been good on cut bait.

Spence

FAIR. Water stained; 80 degrees. 35.61 feet low. Fishing has been slow since the river flooded, look in deeper waters as the heat persists. Black bass are fair working steep rocky ledges, and deep structures. White bass, hybrid bass, and crappie are slow. Catfish are fair on live and cut bait coming out from flats to deeper water.

Stamford

FAIR. Water stained; 80 degrees; 0.46 feet high. Fishing patterns remain consistent. Largemouth bass are good fishing north near the dam and plant depths on Carolina rigged soft plastic worms and jigs. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs on fallen timber and humps. White bass are fair on points with live shad. Catfish are fair on live bait and stinkbait.

Twin Buttes

FAIR. Water Stained. 85 Degrees. 13.82 feet low. Summer fishing patterns remain consistent. Black bass are fair sticking to the west side in the afternoons for the shade. Points, and ledges are also good, but the heat drives the fish to surface or submerged shade. Crappie are good on humps on minnows and jigs. White bass are slow deep. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits.
