Two Borger ISD Educators to be Honored at Region 16
Since 1969, the Texas Teacher of the Year Program (TOY) has honored excellence in classroom education and provided a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and the communities they serve. Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Facilitated by the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Texas Teacher of the Year Program annually recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.
Every fall, 40 Regional Teachers of the Year are selected -- one elementary and one secondary teacher from each of Texas’s 20 Education Service Center regions. Six finalists are then chosen from among the 40 semi-finalists.
Following an interview process, the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Texas
Secondary Teacher of the Year are chosen from among the six finalists. One is selected to represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year program.
Borger ISD would like to congratulate their two District Nominees, Charissa Drake, Elementary Teacher of the Year 2022 Nominee, and Tricia Shay, Secondary Teacher of the Year 2022 Nominee. An Administrative Committee selected Mrs. Drake and Mrs. Shay.
Mrs. Drake teaches second grade at Gateway Elementary. Principal Russell stated, “Mrs. Drake encapsulates what it means to be an educator. Her students thrive in the environment she has set up for their learning. Mrs. Drake’s excitement for teaching and learning is contagious. She is a true leader on campus and challenges her students to always be their best. She sees the potential in each of her students and ensures they are working at the highest level. We appreciate all that she does for our students and school.”
Mrs. Shay teaches English 1 at Borger High School. “Tricia is an amazing teacher that not only loves her students but goes the extra mile to ensure that they are mastering the English 1 TEKS! She and Ms. Sanders are a dynamic duo that has put Borger High School above the state in English 1 on the EOC STAAR test. Tricia is a joy to work with and promotes a positive climate at BHS. She is one of a kind and truly deserves this recognition. Congratulations to Tricia on receiving this honor” - BHS Administrative Team
