Borger Freshman Nathan Orcutt’s State Journey
This year Borger High School Freshman Nathan Orcutt went to state in the wheelchair shot put and made a great showing coming in 8th place. Nathan’s goal was to go as far as he could and never be last!
In his 8th-grade year Coach Bass asked Nathan why he wasn’t in track and his response was, “I can’t run.” It all started there with Coach Bass and Mr. Harris encouraging him and ordering his first adaptive field chair. In February of his freshman year, Coach McWhorter started working with him.
“Nathan has goals and knows what it takes to achieve them. He may need to be pushed from time to time but, he shows up every day ready to work. He understands there is a process to being successful and that that process has ups and downs. Nathan is a team player and is proud to be a part of the Borger Bulldog Track and Field team. There was very little deviation in his workload from that of all the other throwers. He’s also not afraid to get in the weight room and get some work in.” – Coach McWhorter
In the off-season, Nathan keeps very busy continuing his training and participating in Paralympic adaptive sports through One Chair At A Time in Amarillo. He competes in weightlifting, shot put, discus, and javelin through July when Junior Nationals take place. He takes time off in the fall and begins to train in the spring. He participates in band, loves to game, and builds Legos to help relax. Nathan likes to read and loves all things, Harry Potter.
Nathan is grateful to his coaches and teammates for encouraging him throughout this journey.
Congratulations Nathan!
We look forward to seeing what the future holds for you!
