-

It is with a sad heart knowing how much he will be missed, but also a rejoicing heart knowing that Douglas Ray Downs, affectionately known as Doug or Dougy, on May 23, 2023, went to be with the love of his life, the Lord. Born on July 12, 1937, in Borger, Texas, Doug lived his entire life in the town he loved dearly.

He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the entire community for his warmth, kindness, and love for life that touched the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Doug was dedicated to his work at local hotels and then at the church he attended, where he worked as a custodian and was an active choir member. He was never married and instead devoted his time and energy to nurturing relationships with those around him. He cherished his morning coffee sessions with friends, family outings to Cimarron Canyon, and strolls around town.

Doug was an ardent fan of baseball and pro football and could always be found cheering on his favorite teams. His genuine love for being around people made him a beloved figure in Borger as he frequented many local businesses.

Doug is survived by his nephew Ron Downs and his wife Bessie, his nephew Richard Downs and his wife Bonnie, his nephew Danny and his wife Donna, his niece Carla Branson and her husband Steve, and many other great nephews and great nieces. Doug was preceded in death by his father Russell Downs, mother Eula Harris, and brothers Wallace, Carlton, and James Downs. The loss of Douglas Downs is immense, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate to know him.

A memorial service will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in Borger, Texas, on June 1st, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Paul Burwash.

To celebrate Douglas’s life and to honor his memory, we encourage all who knew and loved him to share their cherished memories and photos on his memorial page.

Your tributes will serve as a testament to the remarkable life he lived and the love he shared with all of us.
