ERNIE BOCH JR. HOSTS TRUMP FUNDRAISER,

-

Car czar Ernie Boch Jr., who is hosting a fundraiser for Donald Trump later this month, said he doesn’t know if the White House wannabe is a viable candidate in the long haul, but he thinks he’s the only one who can fix the economy.

“He’s very polarizing,” Boch told the Track. “People either love him or hate him. I don’t know if he’s electable, but I think he’d be good for our economy. And once we get the economy under control, everyone will be much better off.”

A Boston Herald poll out yesterday showed Trump’s support among New Hampshire Republicans has eroded somewhat since his run-in with Fox Newsgal Megyn Kelly, but the tragically coiffed ex-“The Apprentice” host still leads the pack ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Boch said he’s not concerned about the poll numbers, adding that he offered to host the Trump event because, “It’s an opportunity to listen to the man and to help people decide — whichever way they go.”

The Auto Mile magnate is hosting the $100-a-head fundraiser at his Norwood manse on Aug. 28, an invite-only soiree where several hundred of his nearest and dearest will get up close and personal with the outspoken mogul.

According to an invitation to the three-hour fundraiser, dubbed “Ernie’s Summer Bash,” there will be “cocktails, live music and food provided by Tony Ambrose,” the former Ambrosia and Blackfin chef.

Boch said he expected that tickets to the event would be more than $100, but the Trump campaign set the price, hoping to draw as many people as possible.

“Of all the candidates so far, I think he’s the most attractive,” Boch said. “He doesn’t act like a politician, he doesn’t talk like a politician. I don’t agree with everything he says, absolutely not. But I think a lot of it is shoot-from-the-hip stuff. If you analyze every word anyone says, it’s always a problem.”

Boch, who has hosted fundraisers in the past for former Gov. Mitt Romney and Democratic congressman Steve Lynch, said he approached the Trump campaign because GOP White House candidates normally bypass Massachusetts, which usually always supports the Democrat.

“They just assume we’re not with them,” he said. “But whether you love him or hate him, being in the same room with the guy will help you decide.”
