THESE DATES HELP MAKE KIDS SMILE
Boston isn’t known as a great city for singles — which is why we welcome Friday’s Project Smile Date Auction fundraiser at Icon nightclub with open arms. Founded 10 years ago by Catherine Pisacane, the flirty fete “auctions off” local singletons to raise cash for Project Smile and the org’s work helping children who are victims of traumatic events. Pisacane, then single, realized it would be a fun way to get many area singles together for a cause. She and her friends reached out to people who had been featured in Boston lists of eligible singles, put the word out to their Project Smile database and mobilized members of a singles Meetup group and Facebook. They also have recruited through a police academy and a firefighters association, and got nominations from past participants as well. Hosted by HOT 96.9’s Melissa and Ramiro, the evening also features a silent auction with event tickets and VIP outings, signed sports swag and more. There’ll also be a special appearance by New England Patriots cheerleaders. Tickets run $15-$20 and are available on eventbrite. See the gorgeous gaggle of ladies and gents on the block here: project smile.org/dateauction. htm.
••• A quartet of Boston beauties brought some East Coast style to Los Angeles on Sunday night, thanks to their winning bid at the Lenny Zakim Fund Young Leaders Casino Night back in March. Ashley Bernon, Tonya Mezrich, Emma-Louise
Calus and Marsha Yamaykina MacLean won airfare, hotel and the chance to attend a taping of E!’s “Fashion Police.” The well-connected Hub ladies also got industry friends to score tickets to the Emmy Awards, where they mingled on the red carpet with the likes of Kit Harington (aka “King of the North”!) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Way to represent, gals. ••• Fashion Group International’s local chapter will present a Boston Icon Award to Massachusetts milliner Marie Galvin at the Firas Yousif “Blush & Bride” fashion show on Sept. 30 at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston, part of Boston Fashion Week.
