Bill & G heading to Hub for cancer benefit
Bill Rancic was the very first winner of Donald
Trump’s “The Apprentice” and was the very first TV contestant hired by the Trump Organization, so he may know better than most what kind of a president the GOP standard-bearer would be. “He changed my life,” Rancic told the Track. “And I’ll be forever grateful.” But that’s all Bill wanted to say about the coif-challenged White House wannabe. Because Rancic and his wife, E! network red carpet correspondent
Giuliana Rancic, are coming to Boston to host a fundraiser for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bill knows that The Donald may not be the most popular guy in our blue state. “The last thing I want to do is take anything away from the evening,” he said. “So we’re not going to talk politics. This is a night for Republicans, Independents, Democrats and anyone with cancer or touched by cancer, because cancer doesn’t discriminate.”
Giuliana, a breast cancer survivor who just celebrated her fifth year cancerfree, and Bill are hosting the annual UnMask Cancer event Oct. 22 at the Mandarin Oriental at the behest of their pal, Sam Slater and his wife, Jessica.
“I’m happy to be a part of any opportunity to bring awareness to early detection — especially in a room filled with so many young women,” Giuliana said. “I was 36 with no family history when I was diagnosed and it was one of the most shocking moments of my life. But early detection is the key. Breast cancer has a 98 percent survival rate but the key is, you’ve got to find it early.”
The couple, who now live in Bill’s hometown of Chicago, may not want to talk Trump, but it’s obvious they learned a thing or two about business — they’ve got a combined net worth of $14 million and counting!
Bill is an entrepreneur who has been in real estate, he’s about to launch a new business travel TV series, and he just finished a novel, “First Light.” Giuliana has a fashion line on the Home
Shopping Network and her own wine label, Xo,G. Together, the duo starred in their own reality series, “Giuliana and Bill,” and they’ve recently launched a restaurant chain, RPM Italian and
RPM Steak with eateries in Chicago and Washington and more on the horizon.
They’re also contemplating a new reality show — they quit the old one when it became too intrusive for their 4-year-old son, Duke — perhaps with a focus on their restaurant business.
Since Bill wouldn’t bite on the Trump questions, we asked the lifelong Chicago resident if he’s pumped about the possibility of a Red Sox-Cubs World Series.
“Oh my goodness, it would be incredible,” he said. “I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think this is our year. We are long overdue.”
Yes, Chicago’s 108 years of Cubbies agony puts our 86 years to shame!
“The Ricketts Family and Theo Epstein have done an incredible job and the team is on a heck of a run,” he said. “But everyone here is very cautious. Everyone in the city has their fingers crossed.”
Anyway, if you want to talk sports or politics with Bill — or fashion and wine with Giuliana — the UnMask cancer party will feature a DJ, a live and silent auction, living art entertainment, dinner by-thebite, creative cocktails and more.
General admission tickets are $275 and include dinner, drinks and dancing. The young professional ticket option is $175 and grants entry at 9 p.m. It includes drinks and dancing. Go to unmaskcancer.org for the 411. And do tell ’em the Track sent you!
