Best & Worst of yesterday’s game
WORST WAY TO START A GAME: Patriots return man Cyrus Jones fielded Dan Carpenter's opening kickoff 3 yards deep in the end zone. Rather than take a knee, Jones decided to bring the ball out. He hesitated for a moment, which allowed the Bills' special teams to drop him at his own 9-yard line.
BEST MOCK CHEER: After two unsuccessful and ill-advised kickoff returns, Jones was serenaded by Pats' fans in a derisive manner when he took a knee on a kickoff into the end zone.
BEST WAY TO RUIN A BIG GAIN: Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan was flagged with a holding and offensive pass interference on the same play, erasing a 90-yard reception from Jacoby Brissett to Julien Edelman.
WORST TIME FOR RICHIE INCOGNITO TO BE RICHIE INCOGNITO: The much-maligned offensive lineman cost the Bills 15 yards when he was slapped with an unnecessary roughness penalty for hitting Vincent Valentine in the face.
WORST WHIFF: Linebacker Jamie Collins had LeSean McCoy lined up for a big hit, only to come up empty as the Bills running back danced away from him for an 11-yard gain.
WORST TIME TO AUDITION FOR OPEN MIC BOSTON: The game officials forgot to shut off their microphones during a stoppage in play. The end result was that an obscenity was broadcast out to the stadium, giving the sellout crowd one of the few highlights of the game.
BEST STICK: Zach Brown buried his shoulder into a scrambling Jacoby Brissett, forcing a fumble. Preston Brown recovered it at his own 9, ending the Patriots' best scoring chance of the first half.
WORST USE OF AN ELECTRONIC TABLET: Following LeSean McCoy's touchdown, Bill Belichick slammed his tablet against the equipment table, putting an end to that device.
BEST TIME FOR A CAMEO: After not being targeted through three quarters, Rob Gronkowski caught an 11-yard pass for a first down early in the fourth quarter.
BEST USE OF A CHALLENGE FLAG: Rex Ryan was rewarded for using his red flag with 9:42 left. Less than pleased with the officials' spot after a third-down completion from Tyrod Taylor to Walter Powell, Ryan challenged the call and the officials agreed, giving the Bills a first down.
