Time to make more room in the trophy case.

Weston continued its dominance and wrote another chapter in its dynasty on the golf course by capturing a fourth consecutive Division 3 state championship, and the seventh team title in 10 years, yesterday at Shining Rock Golf Club in Northbridge.

“I think they have an expectation coming in,” coach Mary O’Brien said of his golfers. “There’s a tradition of winning.”

This time around, strong performances from several individuals on the par-72 course secured the title.

Nick Cummings, who earned runner-up medalist honors, turned in a 1-over-par 73 to pace the Wildcats.

“I grinded it out out there today,” Cummings said. “I didn’t have the best ballstriking, but I really stayed focused and just glad I was able to help out the team.”

Noah Cate delivered a solid showing for Weston with an 80. Freshman Cooper Griffin showed he was up to the task in his first state final by shooting an 83, and Andrew Hall followed with an 84.

Austin Prep’s Nick Hampoian was the medalist with a 1-under 71. Hampoian’s final shot was the differencemaker, as he chipped in from about 30 yards to secure an eagle at the par-5 18th hole.

“It really hasn’t sunk in yet,” Hampoian said. “It means a lot.”
