A Douglas woman was arrested for drugged driving with her baby in the car after a caller reported the woman smashed several mailboxes and drove off, police said.

Jill N. Porter, 33, was arrested following Tuesday’s crash and she was charged with operating under the influence of prescription drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and reckless endangerment of a child.

Cops said about 1 p.m. Tuesday Porter’s black Toyota was seen leaving the scene of a crash involving three mailboxes, police said. A cop spotted the car in the area with “substantial front end damage,” and signaled her to pull over, police said.

She stopped in the middle of the road instead, cops said.

“A drug recognition expert from the Massachusetts State Police arrived to assist with the stop and it was determined that Porter was highly intoxicated and that she was operating under the influence of prescription drugs,” police said. “Her infant child was released to the custody of a family member at the time of her arrest. A report has been filed with the Department of Children and Families for further review.”

Porter posted $500 bail at the station and was expected to be arraigned yesterday in Uxbridge District Court, police said.

Attempts to reach Porter were unsuccessful.
