Hankerson, BU win again

Cedric Hankerson scored 21 points with five 3-pointers and the Boston University men’s basketball team scored a 76-66 Patriot League victory against American last night at Case Gym.

Eric Fanning added 17 points, including the 1,000th of his career, for the Terriers (10-7), who opened Patriot League play 5-0 for the second time in four years.

Delante Jones scored 21 for American (4-12, 1-4), which has lost three straight games.

In other New England action:

Boston College 74, North Carolina St. 66 — Jerome Robinson scored 24 points, Ky Bowman added 19 and the Eagles (9-8, 2-2 ACC) took down the Wolfpack (12-5, 1-3) at Conte Forum.

Conar Tava added 13 points and A.J. Turner 10 for BC, which did not win an ACC game last season.

Maine 73, UMass-Lowell 71 — In Orono, Maine, Wesley Myers converted a threepoint play with four seconds left and matched a career best with 31 points to help the Black Bears (5-13, 1-2 America East) edge the River Hawks (7-10, 2-1), who were led by Tyler Livingston’s 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Holy Cross 71, Lafayette 54 — Karl Charles scored 20 points, Malachi Alexander (19) hit four 3-pointers and the Crusaders (9-9, 3-2 Patriot) used a 15-0 first-half run to cruise past the Leopards (6-10, 2-3) in Worcester.

Vermont 67, Binghamton 50 — Payton Hensen scored 12 points and the Catamounts (13-5, 3-0 America East) made eight 3-pointers in a rout of the Bearcats (99, 0-3) in Binghamton, N.Y.

New Hampshire 75, Albany 67 — Tanner Leissner had 16 points and 11 rebounds and hit a crucial 3-pointer down the stretch to help the Wildcats (10-6, 1-1 America East) beat the Great Danes (9-9, 0-3) in Albany, N.Y.

UConn 73, Temple 59 — Kentan Facey scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Huskies (7-9, 2-3 American) past the Owls (10-8, 1-4) in Storrs, Conn.

Babson 65, WPI 59 — Isaiah Nelsen had 16 points and nine rebounds as the Beavers (13-1, 3-0 NEWMAC), the top-ranked team in Division 3, held off the Engineers (9-5, 0-3) in Babson Park.

MIT 77, Coast Guard 60 — Cameron Korb scored 22 points, Tim Butala added 13 points and 11 rebounds and the Engineers (11-3, 3-0 NEWMAC) rout the Bears (5-8, 1-2) in New London, Conn.

Clark 66, Emerson 56 — Lamar Berk scored 16 points to help the visiting Cougars (9-5, 1-2 NEWMAC) tame the Lions (4-10, 0-3) at Piano Row Gym.

Bridgewate­r State 83, Fitchburg State 77 — Joseph Carty’s 24 points and 15 rebounds helped the Bears (8-7, 1-1 MASCAC) hold off the Falcons (5-8, 0-2) in Bridgewate­r.

Salem State 99, MCLA 64 — Marcus Faison had 18 points and nine rebounds, Tyreik McCauley scored 16 points off the bench and the Vikings (9-6, 3-0 MASCAC) crushed the Trailblaze­rs (211, 0-3) in Salem.

Framingham State 63, Westfield State 55 — Wesley Ogbevoen scored 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting and the Rams (5-10, 2-1 MASCAC) beat the Owls (5-9, 2-1) in Westfield.

UMass-Boston 94, Plymouth State 90 — In Plymouth, N.H., Sam Freeman scored six of his 28 points in the second overtime and the Beacons (10-4, 3-1 Little East) outlasted the Panthers (7-6, 1-3) despite reserve Jack Preston’s 31 points and 10 rebounds. In Top 25 action: Creighton 75, Butler 64 — Maurice Watson Jr. scored 21 points and the No. 8 Bluejays (16-1, 4-2 Big East) matched the best start in program history with a win against the No. 12 Bulldogs (14-3, 3-2) in Omaha, Neb.

North Carolina 93, Wake Forest 87 — Justin Jackson hit a huge 3-pointer with 1:03 left and the No. 11 Tar Heels (15-3, 3-1 ACC) did just enough to hold off the Demon Deacons (10-7, 1-4) in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Louisville 85, Pittsburgh 80 — Quentin Snider scored 22 points, including two free throws with 25.3 seconds remaining, and Deng Adel added a free throw eight seconds later as the No. 14 Cardinals (14-3, 2-2 ACC) survived Jamel Artis’ career-high 43 points to outlast the Panthers (12-5, 1-3) in Louisville, Ky.

Michigan State 65, Minnesota 47 — Miles Bridges scored all 16 of his points in the first half, helping the Spartans (12-6, 4-1 Big Ten) build a huge lead in a victory against the No. 24 Golden Gophers (11-7, 3-2) in East Lansing, Mich.

Women’s hoops

Harvard 66, LaSalle 64 — In Philadelph­ia, Destiny Nunley scored the final two of her 19 points with :02 on the clock to give the Crimson (13-1) the win against the Explorers (9-7). Nunley also had 12 rebounds.

Holy Cross 67, Lafayette 61 — In Easton, Pa., Infiniti Thomas-Waheed led with 20 points, nine rebounds and three blocks as the Crusaders (3-13, 1-4 Patriot) beat the Leopards (1-15, 0-5).

American 73, BU 62 — Sophie Beaudry had 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting, but the Terriers (5-11, 3-2) lost a Patriot League game against the Eagles (7-9, 3-1) in Washington.

Tufts 73, Worcester State 46 — Michela North scored 21 points, Melissa Baptista added 17 points and five steals and the Jumbos (13-0), No. 1 in Division 3, crushed the Lancers (6-9) in Worcester.

Adelphi 62, Bentley 60 — In a Division 2 showdown in Garden City, N.Y., Macchi Smith put up 24 points for the No. 15 Falcons (12-4, 8-1 NE-10), but the No. 25 Panthers (14-2, 9-0) scored their final eight points from the free throw line for the win.
