BUNDLES (& BUNDLES!) OF JOY ...

- By MARIE SZANISZLO

When he was growing up, Keith Cook envisioned having a large family one day.

“I just didn’t think they’d all come at once,” the 29-year-old machinist chuckled as he sat at his wife, Corrie’s, bedside at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston yesterday, four days after she gave birth to quadruplets. “I guess the moral to the story is be careful what you wish for.”

The Nashua, N.H., couple already had a 3-year-old son, Alexander, when Corrie Cook, a 29-year-old former teacher, learned she was carrying quadruplets.

“It was definitely a shock,” she said. “I thought there’s no way there can be four. I felt overwhelmed, scared, excited.”

She was 31 weeks and two days pregnant when doctors delivered Hailey, who weighed just 2 pounds, 11 ounces, and Michael, who weighed 3 pounds, 7 ounces, at 6:14 p.m. Thursday via C-section. Benjamin followed a minute later, weighing 3 pounds, 14 ounces; and Ellie was the last to arrive, at 6:16 p.m., weighing 3 pounds, 3 ounces.

The infants are expected to remain in the neonatal intensive care unit for at least six weeks, said Dr. Carolina Bibbo.

“The next-biggest hurdle is finding a vehicle and housing big enough for the seven of us,” Corrie Cook said.

Until then, the family expects to remain at Keith Cook’s grandmother’s four-bedroom Nashua home, where they’ve lived since moving back east after a stint in Arizona.

“If I had a way of letting (the babies) know anything, it would be that we love them, and we feel blessed,” said Corrie Cook. “We’re just taking it day by day.”
