No. 12 Virginia tops Louisville

London Perrantes scored 18 points and No. 12 Virginia used a 22-5 run to begin the second half and beat shorthande­d No. 4 Louisville, 71-55, in an ACC men’s basketball clash last night in Charlottes­ville, Va.

Isaiah Wilkins added 13 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks for the Cavaliers (185, 8-3). The victory gave Virginia four consecutiv­e victories against the Cardinals, including a sweep of the season series, and moved them into a tie with No. 14 Florida State for second place in the conference.

Freshman V.J. King scored a career-high 24 points for the Cardinals (19-5, 7-4), whose three-game winning streak was snapped. Donovan Mitchell added 16.

The Cardinals were without their second- and thirdleadi­ng scorers, with guard Quentin Snider (12.1 ppg) out with a hip flexor and forward Deng Adel (11.1) and center Mangok Mathiang (7.1) suspended for missing curfew Saturday. Reserve guard Tony Hicks also missed the game with a broken bone in his hand.

Louisville led 34-32 at the half, but a 3-pointer by Perrantes got Virginia going on the big run to lead, 54-39.

Kansas 74, Kansas State 71 — Frank Mason III had 21 points, Josh Jackson added 18 despite dealing with foul trouble, and the No. 3 Jayhawks (21-3, 9-2 Big 12) bounced back from a rare home loss to hold off the Wildcats (16-8, 5-6) in Manhattan, Kan.

Kansas beat K-State for the fifth straight time and the 19th time in 22 meetings, though it was just as tight as their meeting in Lawrence. In New England games: Bucknell 82, Holy Cross 68 — In Lewisburg, Pa., Zach Thomas scored a career-high 27 points, including four of the team’s 13 3-pointers, and the firstplace Bison (19-6, 11-1 Patriot) earned their seventh straight double-digit victory, crushing the Crusaders (12-13, 6-6) despite Robert Champion’s 19 points.

Vermont 71, Binghamton 51 — In Burlington, Vt., Ernie Duncan hit 6-of-8 3-pointers and scored 18 points as the Catamounts (21-5, 11-0) remained perfect in America East play by routing the Bearcats (12-14, 3-8) for their 13th straight victory.

Albany 67, New Hampshire 55 — Joe Cremo had 21 points, four assists and four steals as the Great Danes (15-11, 6-5 AE) avenged an early-season loss and beat the Wildcats (14-10, 5-5) in Durham, N.H.

Stony Brook 83, UMassLowel­l 72 — In Stony Brook, N.Y., Roland Nyama scored 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting as the Seawolves (1410, 9-2 AE) beat the River Hawks (10-16, 4-7), whose Jahad Thomas had 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Maine 52, Hartford 41 — Andrew Fleming had 11 points and eight rebounds and the Black Bears (6-20, 2-9 AE) held the Hawks (619, 1-9) to just 12 field goals in Bangor, Maine.

Quinnipiac 73, Fairfield 71 — Peter Kiss scored six of his 18 points in the final 1:08 and drained a go-ahead shot with 1.9 seconds left to lift the visiting Bobcats (10-14, 7-7 Metro Atlantic) past the Stags (11-11, 6-7) in Bridgeport, Conn.

Southern Vermont 75, Becker 73 — Mike Pierre scored 19 points and Rayshawn Taylor (16) had six in the final 4:16 as the Mountainee­rs (12-9, 10-2 NECC) edged the first-place Hawks (15-6, 11-1) in Bennington, Vt.

Western N.E. 92, Elms 67 — Mike Gelineau made 10 3-pointers and scored 40 points as the Golden Bears (5-16) routed the Blazers (416) in Springfiel­d.
