Nordstrom incurs dressing down from The Donald

- By OWEN BOSS Herald wire services contributed to this report.

President Trump is blasting Nordstrom’s decision to pull his daughter’s clothing and accessory brand off its shelves, accusing the luxury department store of treating her “so unfairly” during a presidential tonguelashing that sent the company’s stock upward. “My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom,” Trump wrote in a tweet posted yesterday morning to both his personal and @POTUS Twitter accounts. “She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” Trump’s Twitter slam prompted the company to reiterate yesterday that its decision to drop Ivanka Trump’s fashion line was based on the brand’s performance.

“Over the past year, and particularly in the last half of 2016, sales of the brand have steadily declined to the point where it didn’t make good business sense for us to continue with the line for now,” the statement read. “We’ve had a great relationship with the Ivanka Trump team. We’ve had open conversations with them over the past year to share what we’ve seen and Ivanka was personally informed of our decision in early January.”

Although Nordstrom shares dropped shortly after Trump’s tweet, like those of other companies the president has mentioned in the past, they later recovered to close more than 4 percent higher.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Trump was responding to an “attack on his daughter” when he posted the tweet and that “he has every right to stand up for his family and applaud their business activities, their success.”

When responding to a question about Trump’s tweet, Spicer said: “For someone to take out their concern with his policies on a family member of his is not acceptable.”
