Pooch taken in auto theft, owner reunited and it feels so good
A Framingham woman who lost her dog when her car was stolen found her car half a mile away the next day — but the missing pooch turned up two days later and 20 miles away in Boston, police said.
The woman told cops her dog, Jasmine, was in the car when it was stolen Saturday. She was able to find her car the next day about a half mile away from where it was taken, but the 10-year-old bichon frise was nowhere in sight, said Framingham police Lt. Stephen Cronin.
Then someone who spotted the dog in Mission Hill in Boston late Monday night brought Jasmine to the MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center in the city, said Boston Animal Care and Control Department Director Amanda Kennedy.
“They contacted us to let us know they had a stray dog,” Kennedy said. “When it was brought to the shelter the manager immediately recognized the lost dog mostly from what he saw on social media.”
Kennedy said the owner was able to identify the dog over the phone by the bump on her belly. Both owner and dog were elated to be reunited.
“She couldn’t believe it. We even put the phone on speaker and through the phone she was able to call out the dog’s name,” Kennedy said. “The dog was barking and howling with joy.”
The dog appeared to be in good health when she was brought to the shelter, Kennedy said.
Despite the uniqueness of Jasmine’s story, Kennedy said, social media often plays a role in reuniting pets with their owners.
“It’s about utilizing social media mostly,” she said. “The happy moments about the work that we’re doing with out partners through social media.”
