Senators slip past Panthers

Kyle Turris scored the tiebreakin­g goal in the second period and Craig Anderson stopped 37 shots to lift the Ottawa Senators past the Florida Panthers, 2-1, last night in Sunrise, Fla.

Zack Smith had an early shorthande­d goal for the Senators, who have won 4-of-6. Smith has 12 career shorties.

Jonathan Marchessau­lt scored for Florida, and James Reimer made 31 saves. The Panthers have lost three straight after sweeping a five-game road trip, and dropped their last four home games overall.

Turris put Ottawa ahead when his wrist shot went over Reimer’s glove at 9:58 of the second period.

The Senators took a 1-0 lead 6:28 into the game. Reimer blocked a shot from Erik Karlsson, but Smith grabbed the rebound and poked in the puck.

Blue Jackets 5, Rangers 2 — Cam Atkinson and Alexander Wennberg each scored twice to help visiting Columbus to the win against New York.

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 shots to tie his career high with his 32nd win. Josh Anderson also scored for the Blue Jackets, who won for the second time in two days after their bye week and moved past the Rangers into third place in the Metropolit­an Division.

Flames 3, Hurricanes 1 — In Raleigh, N.C., Johnny Gaudreau had two goals and an assist, and Brian Elliott made 34 saves, to lead Calgary by Carolina.

Micheal Ferland also scored for the Flames. Calgary has earned at least one point in six straight games, going 5-0-1 in that stretch.

Victor Rask scored on the power play for the Hurricanes, who have lost 6-of-7.

Coyotes 3, Sabres 2 — In Glendale, Ariz., Radim Vrbata scored with 18.9 seconds left as Arizona rallied by Buffalo.

Before the game, the Coyotes traded center Martin Hanzal to Minnesota for a 2017 first-round draft pick, 2018 second-rounder, conditiona­l 2019 fourth-rounder and defenseman Grayson Downing. The Wild got Hanzal, forward Ryan White and a 2017 fourth-rounder.

Blackhawks 4, Blues 2 — Artem Anisimov scored with 5:20 left in the third period to push host Chicago past St. Louis for its fourth straight win and ninth in the last 10.

Tanner Kero added an empty-netter with 2.6 seconds left. Patrick Kane assisted on the winner and had a power-play goal, and Jonathan Toews also had a goal and an assist for the surging Blackhawks.

Predators 5, Oilers 4 — Filip Forsberg scored for the fourth straight game, Viktor Arvidsson got the go-ahead goal and host Nashville edged Edmonton for its third straight victory.

Ryan Ellis, Vernon Fiddler and Colin Wilson also scored for the Predators.

Connor McDavid, Milan Lucic, Mark Letestu and Jordan Eberle scored for the Oilers.

Elsewhere in the NHL — Los Angeles acquired goalie Ben Bishop in a trade with Tampa Bay. The Kings sent Peter Budaj, defense prospect Erik Cernak, a 2017 seventhrou­nd draft pick and a conditiona­l pick to the Lightning for Bishop and a 2017 fifth-round pick. On Saturday, No. 1 goalie Jonathan Quick returned to the LA lineup from a lower-body injury that had sidelined him since October.
