State police officials are mourning the death of a 31-year-old trooper and U.S. Air Force veteran who died suddenly while working out Wednesday.

Matthew F. Daigle was exercising in Framingham when he suffered what police called a “medical emergency” and later died.

“Trooper Daigle was highly regarded and deeply respected by his brother and sister troopers, as well as by other members of the firstresponder community who knew him,” Col. Richard D. McKeon, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, said in a statement.

Daigle was a member of the 80th State Police Recruit Training Troop and graduated from the academy in 2011. He was assigned to the Framingham State Police barracks on Worcester Road.

Framingham cops, firefighters, and medics who responded to Daigle’s emergency “tried valiantly to save his life,” McKeon said.

Daigle was taken to Framingham MetroWest Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Daigle is survived by his wife, Christine, his sister, his father and his in-laws, all of whom McKeon said “will always be part of our MSP family.”
