$3M Savin Hill project plans condos, retail
A Boston developer hopes to enliven a prominent corner of Dorchester’s Savin Hill Avenue with a new $3 million retail and residential development that could include a corner market and restaurant.
James Baker is seeking Boston Planning & Development Agency approval for a three-story commercial building with approximately 14,182 square feet of retail/restaurant space and another threestory residential building with a mezzanine and nine condominiums on Sydney Street. The sites are about 200 feet from the MBTA’s Savin Hill Red Line station,
The developer would raze structures on three lots to make way for the estimated $3 million project — a boarded-up one-story commercial building at 102110 Savin Hill Ave., and a three-family home and single-family home at 10 and 14 Sydney St., respectively.
Designed by Bostonbased RODE Architects Inc., the new development would create a “new, attractive and energy efficient, commercial and residential building that will enliven and visually enhance the look and feel of this prominent intersection in Savin Hill,” according to Baker’s project filing.
Baker, who couldn’t be reached for comment, owns at least one of the properties. In April, he paid $1.1 million for the three-family property at 10 Sydney St.
The new retail building would have space for two businesses. Project renderings show “The Savin Market” and a restaurant as tenants.
The residential building is designed with a front porch and balconies. The condos would include a first-floor, one-bedroom adaptable unit designed to be wheelchair-friendly and accessible to a person with a disability, and six twobedrooms and two threebedrooms on the top floors.
The project would have up to 15 on-site parking spaces.
