Jimenez, O’s stifle Jays

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched two-hit ball over eight innings, Jonathan Schoop had two hits and an RBI and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Blue Jays, 2-0, last night in Toronto.

Starting tonight, the Jays host the Red Sox for a threegame series.

Baltimore has won consecutiv­e road series after going more than two months without one. They took two of three at Cincinnati from April 18-20, then didn’t win a series away from home before doing so in Tampa Bay last weekend.

After allowing a seasonwors­t nine runs in his previous start against the Rays, Jimenez (3-3) was sharp against Toronto, walking one and striking out a seasonhigh eight. He retired his first eight batters before Ryan Goins doubled in the third, then got another five straight outs.

Astros 6, Athletics 1 — Carlos Correa homered twice and drove in four runs and host Houston topped Oakland.

The victory improves firstplace Houston to 10-2 against the Athletics this season and 17-2 against them since July 20, 2016.

Indians 5, Rangers 1 — Corey Kluber allowed three hits and struck out 12 in eight innings to help host Cleveland beat Texas.

Kluber (7-2) tied a franchise record held by Bob Feller with four consecutiv­e games with double-digit strikeouts. Feller struck out 10 or more batters in his last three starts in 1938 and his first start in 1939.

It’s the 30th time that Kluber has reached double figures in strikeouts in his career.

Tigers 7, Royals 3 — Michael Fulmer came within one out of a shutout, and host Detroit hit three home runs in a victory over Kansas City.

Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler and Andrew Romine went deep for the Tigers.

National League

Cubs 5, Nationals 4 — Jon Jay hit a go-ahead two-run double during a three-run ninth-inning rally against Blake Treinen, lifting visiting Chicago over Washington.

Tommy La Stella drove in a run with a two-out single against Treinen (0-2), and Jay followed with a hit to right-center that brought home Javier Baez and La Stella.

Trea Turner broke his right wrist after being hit by a pitch, and it’s unclear when he will return.

Brewers 11, Reds 3 — Ryan Braun started a six-homer barrage, hitting the first of three off Homer Bailey, and visiting Milwaukee clobbered Cincinnati to salvage the final game of their series.

Mets 6, Marlins 3 — Jay Bruce had a pair of RBI hits and scored twice, and visiting New York took the rubber game of its series against Miami. Cardinals 10, Diamondbac­ks 4 — In Phoenix, Randal Grichuk hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning and drove in five runs, leading St. Louis over Arizona. Padres 6, Braves 0 — Rookie Dinelson Lamet allowed four hits over seven innings, and Wil Myers and Hunter Renfroe hit two-run homers as host San Diego beat Atlanta.

Pirates 4, Rays 0 — Jameson Taillon scattered seven hits over 61⁄ innings, Gregory 3 Polanco and John Jaso hit solo home runs and host Pittsburgh blanked Tampa Bay.

Dodgers 6, Angels 2 — In Anaheim, Calif., Clayton Kershaw struck out 12 to become the majors’ first 12game winner, Joc Pederson hit a three-run homer and the Dodgers salvaged a split of the Freeway Series with the Angels. Elsewhere in baseball — Right-hander Bartolo Colon was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves, one day after the 44-yearold right-hander dropped to 2-8.
