Millis has big plans for a title defense

Millis might be small in numbers, but the Mohawks are large on production.

The 2016 Division 4A Super Bowl champions enter the season as the favorite to emerge in Div. 8 South. Quarterback Bryce Latosek returns along with the backfield tandem of Kurt Hopkins and Dominic Zonfrell. The offensive line is led by sophomore sensation Kevin Pyne, while P.J. Adams is back to anchor the secondary.

St. John Paul will be one of the better offensive teams around as quarterback Devan Harrison comes off a 2,200-yard season. Wareham possesses one of the premier threats around in speedy senior running back Issac Nascimento.

Cathedral appears to be the team to beat in Div. 8 North. The Panthers return All-Scholastic wide receiver Khalil Blair, running back Khamal Headon, tight end Xavier Fernandez and linemen Randy Williams, Ajan Nelson and Jose De Los Santos. TechBoston should be the Panthers’ chief contender to the crown.

Mashpee will be looking for its third straight Super Bowl and has the horses to get there, led by standout running back Devaun Ford and lineman Ben Bohnenberger. The Falcons will be challenged in Div. 7 South by the likes of Nantucket and Cohasset.

St. Mary’s might not have the depth it possessed a season ago, but the Spartans still have to be considered the favorite in Div. 7 North. Calvin Johnson was an All-Scholastic running back last season, but will take over at quarterback for this campaign.

The toughest challenge to the Spartans could be Brighton. The Bengals won what was the Div. 4 North title last season and have enough firepower back to strike fear in the opposition.
