Weekend TV watch

- By MARK PERIGARD

The underbelly of New York in the 1970s is at the heart of HBO’s new drama

“The Deuce” (premiering Sunday at 9 p.m.). A prostitute played by Maggie Gyllenhaal becomes part of the burgeoning porn industry. James Franco co-stars as identical twins. The series is the latest from David Simon (“The Wire”), so expect a lot of characters whose stories intersect in offbeat ways.

Everyone’s favorite depressed talking horse is back. “BoJack Horseman” (season streaming today on Netflix) finds the equine star’s world turned upside down. Princess Carolyn wants a family; Mr. Peanutbutter is running for governor.

London calling. As “Teen Wolf” (Sunday at 8 p.m. on MTV) counts down its final episodes, Scott’s pals and fellow werewolves Ethan (Charlie Carver) and Jackson (Colton Haynes) return from the U.K. to offer some furry assistance. Although the two departed the series separately, (spoiler alert) they are now a devoted couple.

The hair! The passion! The hair! The romance! Did I mention the hair? “Outlander” (season premiere Sunday at 8 p.m. on Starz) finds Jaime suffering under British conquerors and Claire suffering during her time in 1940s Boston. Can they ever find their way back to each other? I, for one, look forward to the fresh flood of emails from “Outlander” fanatics de- manding I do something to get the show an Emmy. Right after Syfy’s “Blood Drive.”
