SIDETRACK
AS YOU WISH:
Patrons of yesterday's 2 p.m. screening of
“The Princess
Bride” at Fenway
Regal Stadium got an awesome treat — and they didn't even have to consult Miracle
Max. Cary
Elwes, star of the movie (Westley and, for a time, the
Dread Pirate
Roberts) popped by to surprise the sold-out audience. Inconceivable? Not at all — the still-dashing actor was in Worcester on Saturday for an announced theater visit and chat about the film, which celebrates its 30th anniversary with a limited theatrical rerelease this week. The movie, considered a classic, also stars Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal and Carol Kane. BTW, Elwes and Kane are working together again, filming a movie in the Bay State about a troupe of actors who accidentally activate the Macbeth curse.
CONTIGO: There's nothing to laugh about when it comes to the devastation in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria, but Massachusetts area comedians are using humor to help. Boston Stands for Puerto Rico, a series of standup comedy relief fundraisers, launches in the Bay State next month, with all profits going to Puerto Rico No Esta Apagao (Puerto Rico Is Not Turned Off).
Venues include The Riot Theater (146 South St., Jamaica Plain), Nov. 11; ImprovBoston (40 Prospect St., Cambridge), Nov. 19; The Gas at Great Scott, (1222 Commonwealth Ave.), Nov. 24 and Dec. 1; Gallery 263, (263 Pearl St., Cambridge), Nov. 25; McGreevy’s, 911 Boylston St., Nov. 28; Nick’s Comedy Stop (100 Warrenton St.), Nov. 30.
