The wife of Patriots rookie Harvey Langi says the couple are “both focused on recovering from” the car crash Friday night in Foxboro that left the injured linebacker out of yesterday’s game.

“Thanks to everyone for the love and support!” Cassidy Lynn Langi tweeted @CLangi10 yesterday.

Cassidy Langi said she is the unnamed “passenger” the Pats referenced in a statement Saturday about the accident where the team said, “We are aware of the traffic accident involving Harvey Langi and a passenger last night in Foxboro. The two were stopped at a traffic light when they were rear-ended by another vehicle. They were both transported to a local hospital with injuries and are receiving medical attention.”

Patriots Coach Bill Belichick extended the team’s thoughts and prayers to Langi and his family and called it “a very unfortunate situation, one that I think shook everybody in the organization.”

Harvey Langi was discharged from the hospital, while Cassidy Langi remained hospitalized.

The three-vehicle pileup occurred at 9:30 Friday night at the intersection of Commercial and Fisher streets. Five people in all were transported to area hospitals with injuries.

“They are hurt but they are alive and that’s a blessing we are grateful for,” Cassidy Langi’s father, Rick Wahlin, told the Deseret News in Utah, where the couple met at Brigham Young University. Wahlin and his wife were en route from Provo, Utah, to New England to be with the couple.

Wahlin told the newspaper that Harvey Langi is being treated for neck and head injuries and his daughter suffered fractures to both hips, broken ribs and is being evaluated for possible internal bleeding and injury to her liver and spleen from the crash. He said the Jaws of Life were used to help extricate them from the crash.

“Those are the phone calls you do not want as a parent,” Wahlin told the Deseret News. “I can’t say enough about the support those kids have had from their local LDS Church members to be there for them until the Langis and I and my wife could be there, and the Patriots helped us get there as fast as possible. Many tender mercies have come their way the past 12 hours.

“They are torn up but very lucky to be alive. All Harvey has cared about is how Cassie is doing, that’s been his biggest concern, and we are grateful for him and all the prayers that have been directed toward our families,” Wahlin said.
