Postseason berths on the line

-

Let the scoreboard watching begin.

As we head into the seventh and final week of the regular season, many folks will be glued to colleague Jim Clark’s up-to-the-minute football rankings page on bostonherald.com as teams see where they land going into the postseason.

Not surprisingly, there are a slew of very important games next weekend — ones that involve league titles, home seeding implications and even teams needing a win to make the playoffs.

We will take a look at a few contests this coming weekend that should draw the interest of most people:

• Bridgewater-Raynham at St. John’s Prep: Despite a stellar 5-1 record, the visiting Trojans are currently fourth in a loaded Division 2 South field with a ranking of 16.43. A slip-up here could send them on the road for the first round of the tournament. St. John’s Prep is sitting in the sixth spot in Div.1 North (11.07), sandwiched between Methuen (11.53) and Andover (10.47).

• Duxbury at Hingham: Huge implications here. Not only is the Patriot Keenan title on the line, but the teams are currently tied for second in Div. 3 South with identical 15.50 marks.

• Hamilton-Wenham at Lynnfield: The Cape Ann League Baker title is up for grabs as these unbeaten teams square off. Both schools currently sit atop their respective divisions as Lynnfield is No.1 in Div.5 North (15.83) and HamiltonWenham leads the way in Div. 6 North (17.67).

• Brighton at O’Bryant: Brighton had the inside track on the Boston North title, but a last-second loss to Latin Academy suddenly makes this contest very important. The Bengals are currently fourth in Div. 7 North (11.13), but O’Bryant is nipping at their heels in fifth place

(11.00).

• Tewksbury at Billerica: While Billerica is in first place in the MVC Small, the visiting Redmen actually have a higher ranking in the point system. Tewksbury currently sits in second in Div.3 North (15.33), while Billerica resides in fourth (14.13).

New wrinkle

The South Coast Conference is trying something different this season. What it’s done for Week 7 of the schedule is to have crossover games involving its 10 member schools.

The winner of the SCC Large (Somerset Berkley) will face the winner of the SCC Small (Wareham), the runners-up of the Large and Small meet, and so on, down the line. The games will be played this Friday at 7 p.m. and here is the complete slate: Wareham at Somerset Berkley, Seekonk at Old Rochester, Case at DightonRehoboth, Fairhaven at Apponequet and Bourne at Greater New Bedford Voke.
