Nelson’s five 3’s help BU women top BC

Katie Nelson scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and Boston University used a suffocatin­g third quarter to knock off Boston College, 61-57, yesterday in women’s basketball action at Case Gym.

Down 28-27 at halftime, the Terriers (4-2) held the Eagles (3-3) to only eight points in the third and scored 14 to take a five-point advantage. Sydney Lowery led BC with 18 points.

Harvard 64, North Carolina A&T 60 — Jeannie Boehm netted 19 points as the Crimson (4-3) handled the Aggies (2-4) in Charlottes­ville, Va.

Men’s basketball

BU 83, Wheaton 48 — Andrew Petcash scored 15 points, fellow reserve Sukhmail Mathon had 13, and the Terriers (2-3) beat the Div. 3 Lyons at Case Gym. David Carbonello scored 11 points to lead Wheaton.

UMass-Lowell 83, Loyola (Md.) 75 — Matt Harris scored 19 points with five 3-pointers, including a go-ahead 3 amid a late run, and the host River Hawks (5-1) rallied to topple the Greyhounds (1-4).

Cal. State-Fullerton 70, Harvard 61 — In the fifth-place game of the Wooden Legacy, Bryce Aiken was 4-for-7 on 3’s and scored 16 points to lead the visiting Crimson (3-4), but the Titans (3-3) prevailed.

Arkansas 102, UConn 67 — Jaylen Barford scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half, and the Razorbacks (5-1) routed the Huskies (42) in the consolatio­n bracket of the PK80 Invitation­al in Portland, Ore.

Bowdoin 80, Babson 71 — Jack Simonds netted 22 points as the Polar Bears (4-0) froze the Beavers (3-2) in Brunswick, Maine.

Salve Regina 73, Suffolk 64 — Rodney Morton’s 22 points helped the Seahawks (2-2) stop the Rams (1-4) in Newport, R.I.

Middlebury 78, Endicott 67 — Jack Daly scored 19 points to lead the Panthers (4-0) over the Gulls (2-1) in Beverly.

S.Conn. 82, Merrimack 78 — In New Haven, Conn., Isaiah McLeod’s 28 points and 10 boards led the Owls (1-3) by the Warriors (4-3).

Michigan St. 63, No. Carolina 45 — Joshua Lanford made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points and the No. 4 Spartans (5-1) toppled the No. 9 Tar Heels (5-1) to win the “Victory Bracket” of the PK80 Invitation­al in Portland, Ore.

Kentucky 107, Illinois-Chicago 73 — Kevin Knox scored a careerhigh 25 points to lead the No. 8 Wildcats (6-1) over the Flames (23) in Lexington, Ky.

The win gave coach John Calipari his 700th career victory.

Gonzaga 76, Texas 71 — Rui Hachimura scored 20 points, and the No. 17 Bulldogs (5-1) blew a 21-point second half lead before putting away the Longhorns (4-2) in overtime in a consolatio­n game at the PK80 Invitation­al.

Georgia 83, Saint Mary’s 81 — Tyree Crump scored five of his 17 points in overtime and the Bulldogs (5-1) beat the No. 21 Gaels (5-2) in the third-place game of the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif.

UCLA 87, UC Irvine 63 — Prince Ali scored 16 of his career-high 21 points in the first half and the No. 23 Bruins (5-1) drubbed the Anteaters (3-5) in Los Angeles.

Men’s hockey

UMass-Boston 4, Bowdoin 0 — Bailey MacBurnie made 26 saves to register the shutout and the Beacons ( 9-1-0) blanked the Polar Bears (2-3-0) in Brunswick, Maine.

Suffolk 3, So. New Hampshire 2 — Joseph Mortillaro scored with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Rams (5-4-0) over the Penmen (3-3-1) in Hooksett, N.H.

Wentworth 2, So. Maine 1 — Kenny Graham turned aside 29 shots as the Leopards (3-6-1) edged the Huskies (1-7-1) in Gorham, Maine.

Endicott 10, Salem St. 4 — Josh Bowes and Logan Day each had two goals as the Gulls (7-1-0) pecked the host Vikings (3-5-0).

Stonehill 4, Bryn Athyn 1 — Billy Palmer’s 40 saves lifted the Skyhawks (3-1-1) over the Lions (4-40) in Worcester.

Western N.E. 6, UMass-Dartmouth 4 — Matt O’Dea’s hat trick led the Golden Bears (4-5-1) past the Corsairs (3-5-1) in Hooksett, N.H.
