‘OFFICE’ BACK IN BUSINESS?
NBC reportedly eyeing reboot for Must-See comedy series
Bears, beets, “Battlestar Galactica.” In other words, NBC is in talks to bring back “The Office.”
After the network pulled off a successful reboot of “Will & Grace” this year, it is now planning to revive its old comedy “The Office” for at least one season, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.
Rein in the excitement for just a second because Steve Carell, the Marshfield store-owner and part-time resident who played Michael Scott, will reportedly not be included in the series encore. Instead, NBC is on the lookout for a new star, who will assume the role as Scranton’s Dunder Mifflin regional manager and its “people person’s paper people.”
Carell, of course, bowed out early the last time the show was on the air, leaving two years before its end and coming back only for its 2013 finale. “The Office” attracted actors like Will Ferrell and James Spader to temporarily fill the void left by Carell in its final seasons, before ultimately having Ed Helms (who played Andy Bernard) finish the series off as bossman.
The original cast of “The Office” also included Newton natives John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) and B.J. Novak (Ryan Howard), Cambridge-raised Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor), Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly), Craig Robinson (Darryl Philbin), Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin), Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone) and Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon). As of now, it’s not known who exactly will be returning to make the reboot a reality.
Greg Daniels adapted the U.S. comedy, which went nine seasons strong, from Ricky Gervais’ and Stephen Merchant’s BBC series of the same name. Daniels may remain attached to the revival project, The Hollywood Reporter said, although he previously told the publication that he was content with the way the show wrapped up in its final episode.
Our feelings on the matter can only be summed up as so: That’s what she said.
