1,000 wins for UConn’s Auriemma

Geno Auriemma won his 1,000th game as top-ranked Connecticu­t beat Oklahoma, 88-64, last night in women’s basketball in Uncasville, Conn.

Auriemma became the fourth women’s coach to reach the 1,000-win mark, joining Pat Summitt, Tara VanDerveer and Sylvia Hatchell, who earned her milestone victory earlier in the day when North Carolina beat Grambling. The fastest to 1,000, Auriemmma got there in his 1,135th game. Napheesa Collier’s 21 points led the Huskies (9-0), while Maddie Manning had 15 for the Sooners (5-6).

Men’s basketball

Iona 82, Holy Cross 68 — In Worcester, Schadrac Casimir came off the bench to drill six 3-pointers on his way to 22 points, and the Gaels (6-5) hit 20 overall from beyond the arc in a rout of the Crusaders (37), whose Jacob Grandison had 14 points.

Notre Dame 97, Dartmouth 87 — In South Bend, Ind., New Bedford’s Bonzie Colson put up a career-high 37 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and the Irish (9-3) held off the Big Green (3-6), who were led by Miles Wright’s 15 points on five 3’s.

In AP Top 25 play:

Texas A&M 64, N. Kentucky 58 — In College Station, Texas, Duane Wilson scored 16 points Tyler Davis added 14 and 10 rebounds, and the dinged-up No. 8 Aggies (10-1) slipped by the Norse (7-5).

Xavier 81, Marshall 77 — In Cincinnati, Kerem Kanter had 16 points and 13 rebounds and the No. 9 Musketeers (11-1), playing shorthande­d because of injuries and illness, held off the Thundering Herd (8-4).

Wichita St. 89, Arkansas St. 80 — In Wichita, Kan., reserve Samajae HaynesJone­s’ 27 points helped the No. 11 Shockers (9-2) hold off the feisty Red Wolves (4-8), whose Deven Simms had 30 points.

Oklahoma 105, NW State 68 — In Norman, Okla., freshman Trae Young’s 26 points and Division 1 record-tying 22 assists helped the No. 17 Sooners (9-1) rout the Demons (3-7).

Cincinnati 77, Ark.-Pine Bluff 49 — In Highland Heights, Ky., Cane Broome had 17 points and the No. 20 Bearcats (10-2) ran away with the win against the Golden Lions (0-13).

Texas Tech 90, Fla. Atlantic 54 — In Lubbock, Texas, Keenan Evans led the way with 15 points and the No. 21 Red Raiders (10-1) blew past the Owls (6-5).

Football

Fla. Atlantic 50, Akron 3 — In the Boca Raton (Fla.) Bowl, Devin Singletary ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns as the Owls (11-3) embarrasse­d the Zips (7-7).
