A driver who fled from the cops was killed in a dramatic crash on Quincy Shore Drive last night, hitting two other cars before flipping over the sea wall onto the beach, police said.

“The motorist who caused the crash fled from a trooper who had pulled him over moments earlier,” state police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement. “The trooper did not pursue the suspect vehicle, but, after the suspect accelerated away at a high speed, followed in the same direction. Shortly thereafter the trooper came across the crash on Quincy Shore Drive in the area of Caddy Memorial Park.”

Procopio said the fleeing driver sideswiped one car and then crashed into another before hitting the sea wall and flipping over on the beach.

One of the vehicles involved was a gold-colored SUV that suffered heavy front-end damage.

That vehicle was parked on the side of the road nearest the beach, with its bumper dangling from a front panel.

The other vehicle that was struck was a light-colored four-door sedan that appeared to have been only slightly damaged.

“The operator of the vehicle that fled the motor vehicle stop, an adult male, has been determined to be deceased on scene,” Procopio’s statement said. “An adult female passenger was ejected and has been transported to Boston Medical Center. The female operator of one of the cars struck by the suspect also has been transported to Boston Medical Center. The injuries suffered by both women are not believed to be life threatening. The operator of the car that was sideswiped was not injured.”

Procopio said the suspect had been pulled over by a state trooper for motor vehicle violations shortly before 9 p.m.

“After the trooper gathered the suspect’s information and was processing the motor vehicle stop, the suspect suddenly drove away at a high rate of speed. The trooper did not engage in a pursuit,” Procopio said. “The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police and various MSP specialized units.”

The wreck forced the closure of both sides of Quincy Shore Drive as state police called their accident reconstruction team to the scene to investigate.
