Lillian Morningstar hadn’t settled for a jumper all game. And in the waning seconds yesterday with the possibility of a third straight loss looming for the Hopkinton girls basketball team, she didn’t hesitate to make her way to the hoop again.

Morningstar dribbled down the lane and converted a bucket in traffic with six seconds left to lift the Hillers past No. 6 Foxboro, 55-54, in nonleague action.

“My teammates did a great job creating space and making it open for me to drive to the hoop,” Morningstar (15 points) said. “I knew I had to win this for the team and it feels great.”

Foxboro (9-1) broke a deadlock with 1:31 left when freshman Kaitlyn Mollica hit a 3-pointer for a 54-51 lead. But Hopkinton (9-3) got a bucket on its next possession from Kate Huebner. The Warriors had a chance to extend their lead with :23 left, but missed the front end of a one-and-one, setting the stage for Morningstar.

The result was a stark contrast to what had transpired a month ago when Foxboro topped the Hillers by double digits.

“For us to get a win like that, we were really needing one,” said Hopkinton coach Mike Greco. “(This) was huge for us.”

Regan Keavany played a big role in that for the Hillers, scoring all 14 of her points in the second half.

Lauren Keleher finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals to lead Abington (8-5) to a 40-32 victory against Martha’s Vineyard in nonleague play . ... Megan Nichols poured in 29 points as Norton (5-7) defeated Somerset Berkley, 63-55.

Araceli Lopez put up 15 points and seven rebounds as Greater Lowell (9-1) topped Whittier, 47-43, in a Commonwealth Athletic Conference matchup.

Sara Fogarty’s 19 points led Masconomet (9-1) to a 56-34 win against Lynnfield in the Cape Ann League.

Emily Bramanti netted 16 points as Westford Academy (8-2) dropped LincolnSudbury, 51-44, in the Dual County League.

Alli Cavallo scored 22 points while Nicole Callander added 11 and 10 rebounds as Duxbury (7-3) defeated Patriot League foe Hingham, 50-32.

Boys basketball

Steve Fama scored 18 points and Josh Perez contributed 15 as St. Mary’s (111) rolled to a 74-38 victory against Archbishop Williams in the Catholic Central League.

Marcus Mompoint scored 31 points, including 10 in overtime, to push Blue Hills (7-1) past West Bridgewater, 77-68, in nonleague action.

Girls hockey

Maddie Coughlin and Kate Fox garnered tallies to fuel Fontbonne/Latin Academy (4-5-2) to a 2-1 win against Cohasset in the Southeastern League.

Nicole Schneiders scored the game-winner with nine seconds left as Westwood (8-6) edged Medway/Ashland, 2-1, in a Tri-Valley League clash.
