Floyd hoists Holy Cross

Jehyve Floyd had career highs with 22 points and six blocks and Jacob Grandison hit two free throws with 13.4 seconds left to help Holy Cross beat American, 60-57, last night in Washington.

Floyd shot 10-of-13 from the field. Caleb Green scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Grandison finished with five points, seven rebounds and five assists for Holy Cross (6-14, 3-6 Patriot).

Jacob Grandison hit a 3-pointer with 3:04 to play to give Holy Cross a 57-55 lead and the teams combined to go 0-for-6 from the field from there. After American missed two clean looks from 3, Floyd made 1-of-2 free throws, but Larry Motuzis answered with two foul shots to trim the deficit to 58-57 with 1:42 left. Grandison’s free throws capped the scoring.

Sam Iorio led American (5-15, 2-7) with 19 points and Motuzis added 17. Sa’eed Nelson had 11 points, eight assists and four of the Eagles’ 13 steals.

Holy Cross overcame a season-high 19 turnovers by shooting a season-best 59.5 percent (22-of-37) from the field and outrebound­ing American 31-19

Newbury 77, Vermont Tech 67 — In Brookline, Daivon Edwards scored 23 points and the Nighthawks (4-11) eclipsed the Knights (11-8).

Tufts 97, Lesley 74 — In Cambridge, Vincent Pace scored 26 points and Eric Savage added 20 as the Jumbos (13-5) thumped the Lynx (10-7).

Dean 78, Wheaton 75 — In Franklin, Jordan Booker had 25 points and Josh Croskey compiled 19 points and 14 rebounds as the Bulldogs (8-7) topped the Lyons (10-6).

U. New England 99, Nichols 85 — In Biddeford, Maine, Alex Kravchuk netted 21 points as the Nor’Easters (8-9, 6-4 CCC) tamed the Bison (14-3, 8-2).

SUNY Purchase 71, Wesleyan 68 — In Harrison, N.Y., Michael Soffer (gamehigh 23 points) drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Panthers (10-6) over the Cardinals (13-4).

In top 25 action: Michigan St. 87, Illinois 74 — In Champaign, Ill., Miles Bridges registered 31 points and eight rebounds as the No. 6 Spartans (18-3, 6-2 Big Ten) topped the Illini (10-11, 0-8).

TCU 82, West Virginia 73 — In Fort Worth, Texas, Alex Robinson’s 17 points helped the Horned Frogs (15-5, 3-5 Big 12) upend the No. 7 Mountainee­rs (16-4, 5-3).

Virginia Tech 80, North Carolina 69 — In Blacksburg, Va., Justin Robinson scored 19 points and the Hokies (14-6, 3-4 ACC) pulled away in the second half to beat the No. 10 Tar Heels (16-5, 5-3).

Ahmed Hill added 18 points for Virginia Tech. Hill scored seven in a row to start the decisive 13-3 burst, which turned a 5148 lead into a 64-51 advantage with just under eight minutes remaining. Kerry Blackshear Jr. added 16 points.

Ohio St. 64, Nebraska 59 — In Columbus, Ohio, Keita Bates-Diop scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half and the No. 13 Buckeyes (18-4, 9-0 Big Ten) held off the Cornhusker­s (14-8, 5-4), the fourth victory for surging OSU in the last eight days.

Nebraska’s James Palmer Jr. had a career-high 34 points.
