Harvard goes to Towns for Ivy win

Seth Towns had seven of his 24 points in the final 3:30 and teammate Christian Juzang added a careerhigh 21 points for Harvard as the Crimson survived with a 65-58 Ivy League win over Brown last night at Lavietes Pavilion.

Chris Lewis’ right hook gave the Crimson (13-11, 8-1) the lead for good at 53-51 with four minutes to play. Towns followed with a 3-pointer to make it a five-point lead at 3:18. Brandon Anderson cut the deficit to 56-53 for the Bears (11-11, 4-5), but Lewis made a pair of free throws and Towns scored on a driving layup to push Harvard’s lead to 60-53.

The Crimson made 5-of-6 free throws from there to secure the win.

Anderson had 17 points, Tamenang Choh scored 11 and Desmond Cambridge 10 for the Bears.

Lewis added eight points and 10 rebounds for Harvard, which stayed tied with Pennsylvan­ia for first place in the league standings.

Yale 77, Dartmouth 65 — Blake Reynolds scored 17 points, Miye Oni added 15 and the Bulldogs (1213, 5-4) rolled to an Ivy League victory over the Big Green (5-17, 1-8) in Hanover, N.H.

St. Bonaventur­e 77, Rhode Island 74 — Matt Mobley scored 26 points and grabbed a key rebound with 4.2 seconds left, and the Bonnies (20-6, 10-4 Atlantic 10) stunned the 16th-ranked Rams (21-3, 13-1) in Olean, N.Y.

The loss snapped Rhode Island’s 16-game winning streak.

Jared Terrell led the Rams with 23 points, but missed a potential goahead layup with 4.8 seconds left.

Men’s hockey

Northeaste­rn 4, Vermont 3 — Sophomore John Picking scored 1:57 into overtime to lift the 12th-ranked Huskies (18-8-5, 12-6-3) to a Hockey East win over the Catamounts (916-6, 6-10-5) in Burlington, Vt.

UConn 5, Boston University 4 — Junior forward Maxim Letunov scored at 2:51 of overtime to propel the Huskies (15-16-2, 11-11-1) to a Hockey East win over the 20thranked Terriers (15-13-3, 10-8-3) in Hartford, Conn.

Providence 5, UMass-Lowell 2 — Senior forward Brian Pinho had a goal and two assists to help the No.8 Friars (19-9-4, 12-6-4) earn a Hockey East win against the River Hawks (16-15-0, 10-11-0) in Providence.

Merrimack 3, New Hampshire 2 — Sophomore defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic had a goal and an assist to help the Warriors (9-174, 6-13-2) earn a Hockey East win against the Wildcats (10-16-6, 5-125) in North Andover.

Harvard 5, St. Lawrence 0 — Sophomore defenseman Adam Fox recorded his first career hat trick as part of a four point night, and junior goaltender Michael Lackey picked up his first career shutout with 16 saves as the Crimson (12-10-4, 10-6-3 ECAC) beat the Saints (7-22-2, 3-151) at Bright-Landry Center.

Women’s hockey

Harvard 2, St. Lawrence 1 — Backed by 40 saves from sophomore netminder Beth Larcom and two goals from rookie Becca Gilmore, the Crimson (13-13-2, 10-9-2 ECAC) defeated No. 8 Saints (17-104, 13-6-2) in Canton, N.Y.

Northeaste­rn 4, Vermont 0 — Freshman Aerin Frankel stopped 34 shots as senior Taytum Clairmont and freshman Veronika Pettey each chipped in a goal plus an assist as the Huskies (15-15-3, 11-10-2 WHEA) blanked the Catamounts (10-18-5, 7-13-4) at Matthews Arena.

Boston College 5, Maine 0 — Toni Ann Miano and Daryl Watts each had a goal plus two assists for the No. 4 Eagles (27-3-3, 18-2-3 WHEA) in a win over the No. 10 Black Bears (17-11-5, 11-8-4) in Orono, Maine.
