PATS PLACE SCORES DANA-FARBER SITE

Cancer institute expanding facilities to Foxboro

- By DONNA GOODISON

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will bring its cancer care to Foxboro and surrounding communities with the opening of a satellite facility at Patriot Place’s North Marketplace in the spring of 2020.

The cancer treatment and research center will lease 34,000 square feet for a medical oncology and hematology outpatient hospital facility in a new 150,000-squarefoot building that’s being developed next to Gillette Stadium by Patriot Place owner the Kraft Group.

In the new space, Dana-Farber will provide adult medical oncology and hematology services, including exams, infusions, support services such as nutrition and social work, and clinical trials.

“The Farber is always looking for opportunities to provide our cancer care to patients in convenient locations nearer to their homes,” said Dr. Craig Bunnell, Dana-Farber’s chief medical officer. “Expanding the number of our clinical care sites is an important part of our commitment to increasing access to highquality cancer care. There already are other medical facilities at Patriot Place, so our patients will have access to a wide array of services.”

Dana-Farber’s new facility doesn’t meet the threshold for a determination of need analysis by the state Department of Public Health, but the clinical space still requires the agency’s approval, according to Bunnell.

Dana-Farber will join the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center at Patriot Place, which is located in a separate building that will be connected to the new five-story facility by a closed walkway. Brigham and Women’s Hospital yesterday confirmed it also will expand into the new building, but declined to say how much space it would take and what services would be housed there. Patriot Place always is looking at ways to expand and bring “worldclass medical care” to Foxboro and the southwest of Boston, spokesman Jeremie Smith said. “We’re very excited to be able to provide cancer care to folks in this area,” he said.

Retail and restaurant uses are being eyed for the new building’s first floor.

Patriot Place is also home to the TB12 Sports Therapy Center operated by Alex Guerrero, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s “body coach.”

Dana-Farber also recently said it signed a lease for 140,000 square feet in the Life Time Center in Chestnut Hill as an expansion of its Longwood Medical and Academic Area campus in Boston. That location is expected to open in early 2020, subject to DPH approval.
