McGregor arraigned on felony charges

UFC star Conor McGregor was arraigned yesterday on charges of felony criminal mischief and misdemeano­r assault, menacing and reckless endangerme­nt following a backstage melee he sparked at a UFC event in New York City. McGregor was released on $50,000 bond for a fighter. McGregor is due back in court June 14.

Video showed McGregor with a group of people causing chaos Thursday as they took an elevator to the loading dock at Barclays Center. He can be seen tossing trash cans and being prevented from throwing a barricade at a bus during his unannounce­d appearance in New York.

NFL: Saints offer to Bears WR

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly signing Bears restricted free agent wide receiver Cameron Meredith to an offer sheet. Chicago now must decide to match the two-year offer worth $9.6 million. Meredith missed the 2017 season after tearing the ACL in his left knee . . . .

The New York Jets re-signed offensive lineman Dakota Dozier and said that offensive lineman Brent Qvale signed his restricted free agent tender . . . .

The Oakland Raiders signed free agent cornerback Senquez Golson and defensive end Armonty Bryant.

NASCAR: Pole sitters for Texas

Stewart-Haas Racing drivers Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer will start in the top three spots at Texas Motor Speedway tomorrow after a weather-shortened qualifying session. Busch, Harvick and Bowyer were the fastest in the first round of qualifying in Fort Worth, but the second and third rounds never took place.

There was initially a delay because of lightning in the area soon after the first round had been completed to determine the top 24 drivers. The second and third rounds were eventually canceled.

Harvick is a three-time winner this season, and won at Texas last November.

Misc: UK’s Knox off to NBA

Kentucky freshman forward Kevin Knox will enter the NBA draft and hire an agent. Knox’s departure was expected after the 6-foot-9 forward averaged a team-high 15.6 points while leading the Wildcats to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. SEC coaches named him co-freshman of the year. Knox is projected as a first-round selection in the June 21 draft . . . .

Auburn sophomore point guard Jared Harper is entering the NBA draft but is not planning to hire an agent. Harper averaged 13.2 points . ... Kansas junior guard Lagerald Vick plans to skip his senior season and enter the NBA draft. Vick averaged 12.1 points and 4.8 rebounds and plans to hire an agent . ... Collin Sexton, Alabama’s dynamic freshman point guard, is heading to the NBA and will hire an agent. A projected lottery pick, he averaged 19.2 points per game . . . .

John Isner and Sam Querry won singles matches last night, giving the United States a 2-0 lead over Belgium in the Davis Cup quarterfin­als in Nashville, Tenn. Isner beat Joris De Loore 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-4 and Querry topped Ruben Bemelmans 6-1, 7-6 (7), 7-5.
