Kluber blanks KC to win 6th

Corey Kluber was handed a big lead early in the game and the rest was simple.

Kluber became the American League’s first six-game winner and the Indians beat the Kansas City Royals, 11-2, yesterday in Cleveland.

The Indians led 9-0 going into the fifth, leading to a stress-free afternoon for the reigning Cy Young Award winner, who gave up two unearned runs in seven innings, scattering eight hits.

Kluber (6-2) was backed by four hits from Yan Gomes, including a threerun homer.

Orioles 17, Rays 1 — Joey Rickard had his first big league multihomer game and drove in four runs following his recall from the minor leagues, and host Baltimore scored its most runs in three years in a rout over Tampa Bay.

Tigers 5, Mariners 4 — Jose Iglesias hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give host Detroit a victory over Seattle, which lost standout second baseman Robinson Cano to a fractured hand.

Astros 6, Rangers 1 — Dallas Keuchel allowed three hits in seven shutout innings, Evan Gattis and Carlos Correa homered for the second straight game and Houston defeated visiting Texas.

Angels 2, Twins 1 — Shohei Ohtani struck out 11 while pitching three-hit ball into the seventh inning, and Zack Cozart got a walkoff RBI single in Los Angeles’ victory over Minnesota in Anaheim, Calif.

Yankees 6, Athletics 2 — Giancarlo Stanton went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, sending Luis Severino and host New York to a victory over Oakland after a long rain delay.

White Sox 5, Cubs 3 — Matt Davidson hit a solo homer and a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly, helping Lucas Giolito and the White Sox salvage the finale of a weekend series against the crosstown Cubs with a win at Wrigley Field.

The White Sox stopped a seven-game slide and became the last major league team to reach 10 wins.

National League

Braves 4, Marlins 3 — Sean Newcomb allowed no runs for the third start in a row and gave up only one hit in six innings to help visiting Atlanta beat Miami.

Giants 5, Pirates 0 — Gorkys Hernandez homered off Ivan Nova to spark a five-run sixth inning, Nick Hundley added a three-run drive and San Francisco beat host Pittsburgh to stop a season-high six game-losing streak.

Phillies 4, Mets 2 — New York’s Jacob deGrom lasted just one inning in his return from the disabled list, and pinch-hitter Nick Williams had a go-ahead, three-run homer off Paul Seward in the sixth inning that carried host Philadelph­ia to a win.

Padres 5, Cardinals 3 — Clayton Richard matched his career high with 10 strikeouts in eight strong innings for his first win in more than a month, and host San Diego beat struggling Adam Wainwright and St. Louis.

Brewers 7, Rockies 3 — Freddy Peralta took a nohit bid into the sixth inning of his major league debut and set a Milwaukee rookie record with 13 strikeouts during this win over Colorado in Denver.

Reds 5, Dodgers 3 — Eugenio Suarez and Joey Votto homered, and last-place Cincinnati completed its first four-game sweep of host Los Angeles since the Big Red Machine accomplish­ed the feat in August 1976.

Nationals 6, Diamondbac­ks 4 — Mark Reynolds homered twice and knocked in three runs for Washington during a win over host Arizona in Phoenix. Bryce Harper and Trea Turner also homered for the Nationals.
