Teigen models truer image of motherhood

- JACLYN CASHMAN

Chrissy Teigen is not only the “Lip Sync Battle” host and wife to singer John Legend, but now she can add supermom role model to women everywhere.

The mother of two has always been candid about the challenges of birth, postpartum struggles and motherhood. She has taken it a step further by posting a photo of herself and two children while exposing her mesh underwear after getting home from the hospital. She is certainly oversharing in the image, but it is amazing to see a supermodel who gets paid for her image to be willing to show the less sexy moments in her life.

The constant pressure on moms globally was slightly alleviated by this famous mom, who has more than 30 million social media followers.

By taking this bold step that might repulse many male followers, she generated huge support from women — more than 20,000 comments just on Instagram. This comes after Princess Kate glided out of the hospital only seven hours after giving birth — once her glam squad prepared her to see the commoners outside waiting to see the new baby prince. That kind of move shouldn’t be celebrated.

At a time when everyone is talking about female empowerment, Teigen’s move shows a confident woman who only expanded her brand and loyalty among women. She is clearly someone who is not afraid to show herself in a vulnerable state.

She posted this image while her husband and music icon attended The Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

After welcoming her daughter Luna in 2016, Teigen tweeted, “No one told me I would be coming home in diapers too.” It is a funny and accurate statement that is another example of her trying to dispel the notion that famous moms or any mom should expect motherhood to be glamorous.

Depression is also quite common for moms, and she bravely battled that as well with her first child.

“I also just didn’t think it could happen to me,” Teigen wrote then. “I have a great life. I have all the help I could need: John, my mother (who lives with us), a nanny. But postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn’t control it. I look around every day and I don’t know how people do it,” she wrote. “I’ve never had more respect for mothers, especially mothers with postpartum depression.”

Cheers to Chrissy! May more woman embrace the realities of motherhood and share their real stories and experiences.
