Police: Drunken Hyannis man referred to slain cop in taunts
Police say an intoxicated man having a meltdown late Friday night over “pizza points” inside a Domino’s restaurant in Hyannis taunted them about the murder of Yarmouth K-9 Sgt. Sean Gannon, citing his freedom of speech.
Shaune Wittenmeyer, 42, of Hyannis was ordered held on $500 cash bail yesterday after pleading not guilty in Barnstable District Court to charges of disorderly conduct and witness intimidation. He was scheduled to return June 26 for a pretrial conference.
Barnstable police said Wittenmeyer “was irate with Domino’s staff over a dispute regarding his ‘pizza points,’ ” shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday and was knocking pizza boxes out of a delivery person’s hand while having “a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.”
Pizza points are part of Domino’s customer reward program that allows them to build credit toward a free pizza.
Police said Wittenmeyer refused to cooperate or comply with requests during his booking.
“At one point Wittenmeyer began to taunt and mock Officers attempting to restrain him with remarks about the recently murdered Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon,” police said in a statement. “He told an officer that he wished he was the ‘dead cop.’ ” Police said Wittenmeyer, upon recognizing he was upsetting the officers, began laughing and said, ‘What are you going to do about it? Freedom of speech, right?”
Police said his driver’s license had also been suspended for failure to pay child support. They said a vehicle linked to him was in the parking lot; however, police did not see him driving.
Gannon, 32, was shot to death last month while serving a warrant at a home in Barnstable. His K-9 partner Nero survived a bullet to the face.
