THEO BURBA NEWTON NORTH The Bay State Conference MVP, the junior standout captured the All-State title in the 800 (1:54.61) and was also part of a 4x400 relay that placed second (3:20.64). An honor-roll student, Burba was the All-State runner-up in the 600 during the indoor season and was part of a winning 4x400 relay team. MANGE CAMARA WATERTOWN The MVP of the Middlesex Freedom, Camara won both the 100 (:11.07) and 200 (:22.03) at the Div. 4 state meet. Camara took a third in the 200 (:21.87) at the AllState meet. He was the State Coaches invitation­al champion in the 100 and 200. Camara is a captain-elect for the football team next season. SMITH CHARLES MILTON One of the premier athletes in the state, the junior took home both the high jump (6 feet, 10 inches) and long jump (23-9.5) at the All-State meet in leading the Wildcats to a 12th-place overall finish. Charles also won both events at the Div. 3 meet to go along with a second-place showing in the triple jump. GREGORY DESROSIERS CENTRAL CATHOLIC Desrosiers had a solid showing in the Div. 2 state championsh­ip, finishing second in both the 400 hurdles (:55.47) and the pentathlon (3,251 points). He broke the school record in the pentathlon at the All-State meet, scoring 3,337 points, which was good enough for second place. He won the 400 hurdles at the Andover Invitation­al. AIDEN FELTY INNOVATION Felty was a dual winner at the Div. 4 state championsh­ips, winning both the shot put (57 feet, 9 inches) and discus (153-8). At the AllState meet, Felty captured the shot put with a personal best throw of 61-7 and placed fourth in the discus. The second-ranked junior shot putter in the country, Felty was second at the New Englands and ninth at the New Balance Nationals. A member of the National Honor Society, Felty sports an impressive 4.2 GPA. LUCAS FROST TEWKSBURY The Merrimack Valley Conference champion in the javelin, Frost took it to another level in the postseason. He captured the Div. 3 state title (174 feet, 4 inches), then added the All-State title (179-10) to his impressive résumé. A member of the National Honor Society, Frost also plays soccer. NATE HOBBS ST. JOHN’S PREP The senior standout won the triple jump (43 feet, 11.75 inches) at the Div. 1 state meet and took a second in the long jump (23-7.75). Hobbs also won the triple jump at the All-State (46-6) and was second in the long jump (23-5.75). An honors student with a 3.44 GPA as well as a basketball standout, Hobbs plans to attend college. RICHMOND KWAATENG LOWELL The sophomore played a key role in Lowell winning the Div. 1 state team title. Kwaateng won the 100 (:10.85) as well as being on the winning 4x100 relay (:42.63), while taking a third in the long jump. At the All-State meet, Kwaateng ran one leg on the 4x100 relay that placed second in a time of :42.35, while winning the 100 (:10.70) as Lowell took the All-State team title. PHILLIPS MAGRE SOMERVILLE The premier 400 runner in the state, Magre captured the Div. 2 state title (:48.50) as well as the All-State championsh­ip (:47.98). Magre was the Northeaste­rn Conference champion in the 200 meters and the high jump. The MSTCA Frank Mooney Athlete of the Year, Magre signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Northeaste­rn in the fall. ANDREW MAH NEWTON NORTH An All-American in the 2-mile, the senior was second in the Div. 1 state meet (9:11.25) as well as the All-State Meet (9:13.32). Mah was the New England champion in the 3,200 and went on to win the National Championsh­ip in the 5,000 meters. An Indoor Track 5K All-American, Mah will attend MIT. MATT MCDERMOTT ANDOVER The Merrimack Valley Conference champion in the discus, McDermott extended his excellence in that event into the state meets. McDermott won both the Div. 1 state (159 feet, 9 inches) as well as the All-State titles (169-1). A two-time MVC All-Star as well as school record-holder in the discus, McDermott will compete in track at UMass. RYAN OOSTING ARLINGTON The premier distance runner in the state, the Gatorade Runner of the Year won the State Coaches invitation­al mile (4:21.72) as well as the Middlesex League titles in the 800 (1:54.32) and 2-mile (9:27.13). At the Div. 2 state meet, Oosting won the mile (4:18.31) and 2-mile (9:23.93). The junior duplicated his performace at the All-State meet, winning the mile (4:14.09) and 2-mile (9:06.17). Oosting was second at the New Balance Nationals in the 5K (14:37.34). STEVEN WILSON TEWKSBURY The senior was a two-time champion at the Div. 3 state meet. Wilson won the pole vault (14 feet) and set a meet record in the pentathlon, scoring 3,044 points. Wilson placed second in the pole vault at the All-State meet with a height of 13-3. Wilson plans to attend college next year. ADAM YANG ACTON-BOXBORO A Dual County League All-Star, the junior won the 110 hurdles at the Div. 1 meet (:14.48), while taking a fourth in the long jump (23 feet, 3 inches). A week later at the All-State meet, Yang captured the 110 hurdles with a time of :14.31, while finishing fourth in the long jump (22-11.75). He has been an honor-roll student in each of the three years. JEFF YANG PLYMOUTH NORTH After taking a fourth in the 400 hurdles at the Div. 2 state meet, the sophomore put it all together at the All-State meet. Yang won in an impressive time of :54.77. Yang finished first in the Big School Freshman/Sophomore Meet (:57.7) and took a second in the South Shore Principals Twilight Meet (:56.81). A honors student, Yang boasts an impressive 4.6 GPA and has won several academic awards.
