WESTWOOD — In the first half of the season opener, veteran wide receiver and Virginia Tech commit Mike Sainristil set the tone for Everett.

But over the final 23 minutes, Sainristil gave way to newcomer Isaac Seide, a transfer running back who put on the finishing touches for the Crimson Tide.

Sainristil and Seide proved too much for No. 2 Xaverian last night, leading top-ranked Everett to a 3421 nonleague win.

Seide scored Everett’s final three touchdowns and finished with 14 carries for 165 yards, while Sainristil made eight receptions for 103 yards and two scores.

“(Seide) is another weapon we got,” Sainristil said. “Another person we can use on this offense. He’s a playmaker. That’s what we have here in Everett.”

It was the first win for Theluxon Pierre, who made his Everett head coaching debut after taking over for the legendary John DiBiaso, while the Crimson Tide recorded the program’s 800th all-time victory.

“All smiles all around,” Pierre said. “It’s great for Everett. It’s great for the team to start off on the right foot.”

Everett certainly had to work for it as Xaverian stayed within striking distance most of the contest.

Sainristil got Everett’s offense rolling with two firsthalf touchdown receptions from Dillon Doherty, while Seide took off in the final minute of the half with a 59-yard touchdown run for a 20-14 halftime lead.

Midway through the third, Seide struck again. On a crucial fourth down, he went nine yards for a score and a 26-14 edge.

The Hawks didn’t go away easily, as Michael Berluti kept it on a 1-yard quarterback sneak to get within 26-21 with 6:08 left.

Less than three minutes later, Seide answered, breaking off a 44-yard touchdown run.

“The line did a great job of opening up the gaps and I was just running through them,” Seide said. “That’s all there is to it. We played as a team and got the win.”
