Sabres rally to drop Habs

Kyle Okposo scored on a power play with 1:01 left in the third period, and the Sabres rallied to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 last night in Buffalo. Sam Reinhart also had a goal in the third period, Jason Pominville scored twice and Jeff Skinner had three assists for the Sabres, who have won three straight to improve to 6-4-0 — their best start after 10 games since the 2011-12 season. Carter Hutton stopped 19 shots. Max Domi scored two goals for the Canadiens, who were beaten in regulation for the first time in six games. Joel Armia had the other goal and Antti Niemi made 38 saves. Up next for the Habs is a visit to the Garden tomorrow to face the Bruins. Sabres rookie Rasmus Dahlin set up Okposo’s one-timer from the right circle for the winning goal. A tripping penalty on Armia put the Sabres on the power play with 1:19 remaining. Reinhart’s first goal of the season tied the game for Buffalo with 6:53 left in the third period. Jake McCabe fed Reinhart in the right slot for a one-timer. Predators 4, Devils 3 — Kyle Turris made a length of the ice rush and snapped a shot past Keith Kinkaid 3:35 into overtime and Nashville rallied by New Jersey in Newark. Viktor Arvidsson, Filip Forsberg and Yannick Weber also scored for the Predators, and Jusse Saros made 33 saves to help send the Devils to their third straight loss. Nico Hischier scored twice, Damon Severson added a goal, Kyle Palmieri had a career-high three assists, and Taylor Hall added two assists — as the Devils’ top line of Hischier, Palmieri and Hall had seven points. Kinkaid made 32 saves. Blackhawks 4, Rangers 1 — Nick Schmaltz set up Alexandre Fortin’s tiebreakin­g goal in the second period, and host Chicago beat New York. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews also scored as Chicago won for the third time in four games, continuing its surprising start. New York lost for the third time in four games. Pavel Buchnevich scored in the opener of a four-game trip, and Henrik Lundqvist made 33 stops. Wild 4, Kings 1 — Eric Fehr and Jonas Brodin scored their first goals of the season, and Minnesota beat Los Angeles Kings in St. Paul. Devan Dubnyk stopped 23 shots and had an assist for the Wild, winners of four straight. Mikael Granlund and Mikko Koivu scored empty-net goals. Blue Jackets 7, Blues 4 — Boone Jenner and Anthony Duclair each scored twice, and visiting Columbus rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat St. Louis. Josh Anderson had a goal and an assist, David Savard and Seth Jones also scored, and Joonas Korpisalo made 33 saves as Columbus snapped a two-game losing streak. Elsewhere in the NHL — Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson’s 20-game suspension for an illegal check to an opponent’s head in a preseason game has been upheld by NHL commission­er Gary Bettman .... The New York Rangers assisgned former Bruin Matt Beleskey to Hartford of the AHL after clearing waivers.
