Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy returned to practice on a limited basis yesterday as he makes his way back from a concussion. McCoy suffered the injury early in Buffalo’s 37-5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. On Buffalo’s second play from scrimmage, McCoy landed on his head as he was taken down by Kenny Moore II. McCoy did not return. It’s been a down year for McCoy and the Bills offense. Through seven weeks, McCoy has just 244 rushing yards and no touchbecause downs. He ran for 1,138 yards and six touchdowns last season. The Bills h ost the Patriots on Monday night.

WRs out for ‘TNF’

Both the Texans and Dolphins were without a starting receiver last night with Houston’s Keke Coutee out with a hamstring injury and Miami’s Kenny Stills inactive because of a groin injury. The Dolphins had feared that they’d also be without receiver Albert Wilson, who was dealing with a hip injury this week, but he was active for the game.

Officially fired

The NFL fired down judge Hugo Cruz for inadequate performance, two people familiar with the firing told The Associated Press. Cruz is in his fourth season as an NFL official. The people spoke on condition of anonymity the league has not publicly announced the move. Cruz, a part of referee Carl Cheffers’ crew, was involved in a missed call in the Chargers-Browns game that led to a Los Angeles touchdown on Oct. 14. Chargers tackle Russell Okung falsestarted on the play and nothing was called. But Cruz was fired for his overall work over a sustained period, not just for one specific play. The NFL Referees Association said it would challenge the firing. In all, the NFL has 121 officials and 17 officiating crews. Because there are extra officials not working each week, filling Cruz’ spot shouldn’t be an issue.

Jags’ Bouye a no-go

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without Pro Bowl cornerback A.J. Bouye against Philadelphia in London on Sunday. The Jaguars ruled Bouye out , saying he did not make the overseas trip. Bouye missed practice yesterday after sustaining a calf injury in drills the day before. The team also will be without backup cornerback Tyler Patmon because of a neck injury. Patmon also remained in Jacksonville . . . . If anything happens to Case Keenum, the Denver Broncos’ offense would be in the hands of Kevin Hogan, who rose up the depth chart when Chad Kelly was waived earlier this week. A third-year pro, Hogan has one NFL start on a resume that includes more wins (36) and total yardage (10,634) in college than any of the all-time great quarterbackls who played for Stanford, including his boss, John Elway.
