Garnett, Sandler working on Netflix crime dramedy series
And the award for unlikely duos goes to Kevin Garnett and Adam Sandler. The former Celtic dropped a major hint that he’s working with the comedian on his latest movie project, “Uncut Gems,” posting a selfie from the set. “The look you have when you chillin/working with one of your childhood idol’s (sic)… ‘we working ya’ll,’ ” Garnett captioned the photo of himself and Sandler, deeming his time in production with the Sandman “#EPIC #GOATLIFE.” Rapper and actor Lakeith Stanfield also managed to squeeze at least part of his face into the frame of the pic. Garnett acknowledged the “Atlanta” star in the caption, teasing, “I see u peep a boo azz.” The A24 movie is a crime dramedy centering on New York City’s Diamond District and is slated for a Netflix release next year. Sandler will play a jewelry store owner whose life dramatically starts to spiral when his inventory of bling is stolen. As of now, it’s unclear what role Garnett will have in the film. Previously, The Big Ticket’s acting experience was confined to the court, with him playing an uncredited basketball player in the 1994 movie “Blue Chips” and Wilt Chamberlain in the 1996 HBO flick “Rebound: The Legend of Earl ‘The Goat’ Manigault.” Besides Sandler, Garnett and Stanfield, the cast of “Uncut Gems” includes: Pom Klementieff, known for her work in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers: Infinity War”; Judd Hirsch, recognized for his roles in “Independence Day” and “Taxi”; and Idina Menzel, whose pipes have been heard in “Frozen,” “Rent” — both on Broadway and in the film adaptation of the musical — as well as “Glee.” Josh and Ben Safdie of “Good Time” fame are directing the Sandler pic, using a script the brothers wrote alongside Ronald Bronstein. Producers include Scott Rudin, EliBush, Sebastian Bear-McClard and Oscar Boyson, while Martin Scorsese and Emma Tillinger Koskoff are signed onto the project as executive producers.
