A man being monitored by ICE and charged with two separate counts of child rape is due at a dangerousness hearing in Lawrence District Court today after he was caught by state police last week.

Jonathan Llopiz, 29, who was wanted by police for more than a year, is charged with raping two girls under the age of 11, according to police reports.

The first incident, taking place in 2017, was the molestation of a 10-year-old girl. Police reports state that Llopiz would often give the girl money or candy.

About a year after the first rape was reported to police, Llopiz was charged with the rape of a 6-year-old, a crime he allegedly had committed 10 years prior to the report. The girl, now 16, told police the abuse spanned two years, from 2008 to 2010.

The girl told her family about the incident after a failed suicide attempt at her home.

She told police she suffers from depression, anxiety and has trouble sleeping because of the alleged abuse.

“She told me she was scared and I told her to take a deep breath,” the investigating officer said about interviewing the young girl. “She told me that she was touched . ... I told (the girl) that she was very brave for coming to the police to me about what happened. She told me she felt better and was not afraid of the police anymore.”

Llopiz would reportedly play hide-and-seek with the girl, which is when the rapes occurred. According to the police report, Llopiz got “aggressive” and “angry” when the victim asked him to stop.

Llopiz was arrested last week on drug dealing charges and was arraigned and held without bail. He has also previously been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Police reports state Llopiz served five years in jail for trafficking a controlled substance.

Police said Llopiz, a Lawrence resident, had been working at a restaurant cleaning business in Concord, N.H. He is described as heavy-set, 5-foot-5 and 170 pounds, with a shaved head.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman told the Herald the agency is monitoring the case but could not confirm whether Llopiz is in the U.S. illegally. No immigration detainer has been issued in the case.

In Massachusetts, a conviction in the rape of a child under the age of 16 carries a sentence of up to life in state prison.
