Senior Marcus Gonzalez needed just over 160 rushing yards to make it to the 2,000-yard mark for the season. He did that and then some on Thanksgiving morning. In the third installment of the Turkey Bowl, TechBoston came out running hard and often to win its first yearly contest against Cathedral, 48-6, at Roberts Field yesterday. Gonzalez finished the day with 174 yards on the ground and three scores. “It means a lot (to get this win) because we worked hard,” said Gonzalez. “We set goals for each other and we just knew we had to give it our all for that last game.” The senior got it to 2,012 yards for the season, and a 3-yard scamper to end the third quarter put him at 2,002 yards to give TechBoston (6-5) a huge first down in Cathedral (1-9) territory. “We knew it could happen today and that was the focus to make it happen today,” TechBoston coach Raul Brown said. “He worked really hard all year long and all of his teammates had his back.” Gonzalez had three carries on the opening drive, but it was his 3-yard score that capped off a 13-play drive and ate up 7:20 off the clock to make it 6-0. He added a 47-yard run to make it 14-0 and a 65-yard run to go along with a two-point conversion to make it 42-0 at the half. “It’s good to win period,” said Brown. “It’s good to get back at (Cathedral) who put it on us two years in a row convincingly.” The defense and spe- cial teams also played an integral part for the Bears as a kickoff return fumble by Yvan Grand set up a 23-yard for senior Stevens Jolicuer as the first quarter ended to make it 20-0. Grand then took a fumble back to the house two plays later from 30 yards out to make it 26-0. A 40-yard interception for senior Anthony Griffith made it 32-0 on the ensuing Panthers drive. “Our defense played hard,” Gonzalez said. “In order for our offense to go, then we need to have a good defense.” Cathedral got on the board in the third as Omarion Braggs hit Zahaq Harrison for an 18-yard TD pass on fourth down to make it 42-6. An Essau Jackson 6-yard TD run with 3:12 left in the fourth ended the scoring for TechBoston.
