Scanlon, BU top Elon
Tyler Scanlon scored a dozen points in the last three minutes as he and Max Mahoney finished with 18 points apiece and Boston University rallied past Elon, 65-58, yesterday in Elon, N.C., wrapping up a sixgame road trip and winning in North Carolina for the first time since 1997. Scanlon hit a 3-pointer for a 56-55 Boston lead with 2:42 remaining and the Phoenix scored only three more points from there, none at all in the last two minutes. Scanlon scored four straight free throws in the waning seconds, added a drive and a 3-point play after his go-ahead 3 to score 12 points in less than three minutes. The Terriers (5-4) controlled the boards, 47-28, which helped them to a 36-12 disparity on points in the paint and survive 15 turnovers and Elon’s 10 3-pointers.

In Lexington, Ky., Reid Travis scored 22 points, Keldon Johnson added six of his 13 points during a 14-2 second half run that helped the No. 10 Wildcats (7-1) beat the Spartans (7-2) for their seventh consecutive victory.

Markus Howard scored 45 points and went 19-of-21 from the foul line, and the Golden Eagles (6-2) used tight defense in handing the 12th-ranked Wildcats (6-1) their first loss in Milwaukee.
