Passengers enraged after Boston-to-L.A. flight takes 30 hours

Passengers on an Alaska Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles are enraged after the seven-hour trip turned into a 30-hour long haul.

Passengers boarded Alaska nonstop flight 1367 from Boston to Los Angeles at 6 p.m. Saturday, but had to wait two hours before takeoff. The plane was in the air for 90 minutes before it had to be diverted to Buffalo Niagara International Airport in New York due to electrical problems.

The 140 passengers were then stranded in the New York airport with no Alaska flight personnel for hours, according to passenger and media accounts.

Stranded passengers on the nightmare flight took to social media to slam the airline for its poor service.

“It’s over. I am tired of the lies, cheats, mistreatment and abuse over the past several days,” said Tiffany Grace Devereaux on her running blog stimulationfromabroad.com. “This relationship will cease to exist moving forward. Not only for myself, but for others who have had relationships with you. On 1/5/2019, I boarded a flight from Boston to Los Angeles, which should have been a duration of a little over 7 hours. Instead, I was not on the ground in LA until 9:30pm the next day. Which, in itself, is not that big of a deal. It’s the hell that you put myself and fellow passengers through in between that I am pissed about.”

Alaska flew passengers on Sunday not to LA, but back to Boston, where they had to wait another 90 minutes for a gate to open at Logan International Airport. A new LA flight was booked later that afternoon. Once in LA, some passengers didn’t have their checked baggage.

The problem has led to a systemwide review, Alaska Airlines said.

“We’re sorry for the experience our guests had on Alaska Airlines Flight #1367 this past weekend. We clearly failed them at several points and we deeply regret the experience that left them stranded for hours without support or communication,” the company said in a statement. “That experience is not the Alaska way and does not reflect our values. This situation has initiated a full review across the company so that we will learn from this experience and work towards making sure it doesn’t happen again.”
