Posh? Somerville? Yes!

- By MIRIAM SCHWARTZ

Somerville is officially very much a destination these days with the booming Assembly Row shopping and dining area and the future extension of the MBTA’s Green Line. With a renewed interest in this part of town comes a demand for more living options, and builders have been quick to answer the call. And, being slightly farther away from Davis Square, where the price per square foot can be steep, homebuyers looking to put down roots in Somerville will love the just-finished townhome at 640 Mystic Ave. More than that, Unit 1, now on the market, offers an opportunity to go way beyond the ubiquitous triple-decker conversions and get into a modern layout, exceptional amenities and lots (and lots) of space. Among the many things buyers find in this new townhome development that are unheard of in other parts of Somerville: garage parking for two cars, two and a half baths and a porch with views of the river. And that’s just to start. As you’d expect, there are plenty of luxury finishes throughout the townhome’s more than 1,600 square feet, but even those are unexpected. In the open, ready-tohost-a-dinner-party kitchen, dining and living space, the wide-plank hardwood floors are a visually interesting upgrade. A wall of windows illuminates the space and makes it feel bigger, and the kitchen opens into a private rear patio when it’s time to take the party outside. The kitchen itself is sleek but not austere, with a breakfast bar and island with extra storage and droolworthy Bertazzoni gas range. On top — literally — of the two bedrooms and full bath on the second floor, the third-floor master suite is plushly carpeted and enjoys extra-tall ceilings, a pair of custom walk-in closets, stunning master bath and that porch overlooking the Mystic. Taking the T? The Orange Line stop is a short walk away. Assembly Row is less than a mile drive from your front door. Open house hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The sale of the home, priced at $849,900, is being handled by Stephen J. Bremis of Bremis Realty, at 617-828-1070.
