Ocasio-Cortez on right path

Boston Herald - - OPINION -

For the sake of brevity, I’ll ignore Adriana Cohen’s misleading distortions as she bashed newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez so we can focus on the heart of Cohen’s folly (“Ocasio-Cortez a good dancer, clueless on tax policy”). Perhaps Cohen would prefer that we continue with business as usual while we pretend that global warming is nothing to be concerned about. Perhaps she doesn’t realize that we are continuing down a path of self-annihilation that has been guided by the balance sheets of the fossil fuel industry. Global warming is causing the Earth’s climate to change in unpredictable and dangerous ways, and the cascade of catastrophic weather events occurring around the world is our “Pearl Harbor” wake-up call. Ocasio-Cortez recognizes our quandary and has the courage to speak truth to power. Considering that the rate of warming and its consequences have exceeded scientists’ expectations, those aggressive proposals from Ocasio-Cortez are the only sane ideas I’ve heard from Washington lately. — Kerry Castonguay, Leominster
